|
|
I can't believe what I heard that a Portuguese Lorry Driver who killed a family of 6 has been sentenced to 3 years in jail for careless driving. The jury were told he was looking at his laptop at the time and was only going at 30 mph, but the weight of the lorry caused so much damage.
I think the sentence is outrages, but he will live with those deaths for the rest of his life.

He should have got 10 years at the very least, 3 years is pathetic, he killed 6 people for heavens sake. |

How can killing a family of 6, however unintentionally, be anything other than dangerous rather than careless driving?

half listening to the JV show today, I got the impression the whole sad affair was worsened by him being a foreign driver, foreign truck drivers maybe representing a greater risk on our roads.. _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

I don't think that's true really. After all, didn't another caller (himselr a truck driver) say that all such people are supposed to be professionals, and with it that brings a resonable assumption of their competence? |

Supposed to be yes, but haven't we seen many occasions on the Traffic Police programmes where they stop foreign trucks to find they're either illegal, poor condition or the drivers have been driving too long.
I'm sure one driver didn't understand the UK road signs either. _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07
