I remember when you could just walk up Downing Street past the house! And pose for photos outside the door without being a BBC reporter who has been cleared by MI6! |

My dad took me up to London for the first time back in the 60s when Harold Wilson was PM and we did exactly that - in fact, as a youngster, I asked the duty copper if Mr. Wilson would be angry if I knocked on the door. "I doubt it, young Sir" he replied, "He's in the Isles of Scilly at the moment!".
I think the year was either 1965 or 1966. We went to the Motor Show at Earl's Court where my dad's company was exhibiting. |

I can remember those days too. It was probably the 1970s when us kids were able to walk up Downing St past the prime minister's house & the chancellor of the exchequer's, when on a trip to London.
Can anyone remember when you could just go right up to Stonehenge and walk among the stones instead of being stuck behind a barrier seemingly far away from them. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

You're right. This photo does date from about 1970. I came across it, inside an album, when I was clearing a cupboard out at the weekend. Quite alarmed at how much it has faded.
I've never been to Stonehenge. A bit late now, by the sounds of things. _________________ Ron |

Yes, I did just that back in the 70s when hitch-hiking. I went back there a couple of years and was horrified at the restrictions. I won't bother again! |

Me too Briant.
It must have been around 1970 and I've a photo but I don't think I'm on it, it was a grey winter's Sunday afternoon, that much I do recall.
Went to Stonehenge as well can't remember exactly when that was though.
