When I was a boy, 50 years ago, I used to enjoy the musical contributions made to the Light Programme by the BBC Revue Orchestra under its conductor, Harry Rabinowitz.
The BBCRO lost its own identity in 1964, when it merged with the BBC Variety Orchestra to create the BBC Radio Orchestra.
I had sort of assumed that by now HR would have shuffled off this mortal coil.
So I was delighted to see in this morning's Telegraph that he celebrates his 93rd birthday today.
Thanks to him for all the pleasure his music must have given over so many years. May he have many more birthdays.
