Just listening and it's guite interesting. I've never felt the need for an Ipod as Mark Radcliffe has just said he doesn't either.

I was given an MP3 player for Christmas but have not used it yet, and apart from going on holiday I'm not sure I'll use it.

Any comments from you all on all things digital?

I think they have their uses, ie convenience, I could fit my entire CD collection on a large ipod and have it available when travelling etc, but generally digital tends to mean lower quality from broadcasters, eg DAB, listen again, as they simply compress everything to cram more in. I'd like to see some higher quality as per HD video.

I'm like you on this Helen, I'm (to use Mark Radcliffe's expression) 'Stone age' when it comes to new technology. I've only recently embraced CD technology when it comes to music! Like you, I got one of these Ipod thingys one birthday (or was it Christmas?) and very seldom use it & never on my own!, though my sister's hubby (and my cousin) have tried to show me what to do, I find I have soon forgotten what to do after they've gone home. Unlike my sister, there is no spouse always on hand to tell me what to do (or sort me out if I should make a right pigs ear of things) without making me feel like the worlds biggest nincompoop! So I just carry on with what I know. Someone tell these marketing bods not to do away with the 'low-tech' stuff just yet, there's still plenty of us around at the moment!

It's not that I don't know how to use it. It's just that I don't walk around listening to music when I'm out! Much the same as mark Radcliffe it would seem!

I bought myself an MP3 player a few weeks back. Very neat and terrific sound. I couldn't get on with the ear phone as it made my ear hurt so I bought headphones which is better.
Used it about 3 times maybe....
I find that if I record "favourite" tracks, I very soon get fed up with hearing them. I also thought this way back in the 70's with cassettes in the car, ok for a time but then it's back to the "random" radio music.
It's all great stuff but not really for me, besides, it's like my phone, I couldn't see the tiny read out! Shocked

Know exactly how you feel Santa, sidecar bought me a new digital camera for Chrimble. When I use it, looking through the viewfinder, she keeps saying, "why don't you use the LCD screen"? Cause I can't bloody see it without me reading glasses on gal Exclamation Embarassed Wimmin Shocked

Santa Fe

I'm of the same view about favourite tracks, which is why I usually have the radio on in the car.

I don't think Stuart need worry about presenters on normal radio stations being an endangered species either, something that came up on the show!

I, too, caught this starting with "the eBay song" - now I'm going to have to listen to the rest of the show, aren't I? Smile (Can we have eight-day weeks in 2007, please, just so I've got an extra one to catch up with all the great stuff on R2?)

I wouldn't call myself a Luddite because I use fairly state-of-the-art digital SLR camera and lens equipment, and am able to manipulate the images for desktop publishing purposes (I also help to edit an amateur aviation magazine on my PC in my spare time at home - listening to R2 invariably relieves the pressure of meeting publishing deadlines!).

However, I've never really felt the need to have an iPod or MP3 player just yet, for much the same reason that it took until just eighteen months ago for me to buy a mobile phone.... do I really need one yet? If I'm out and about, I'm in the car, which has a radio and a CD player, if I'm out and about and not in the car, I'm invariably half-way up the side of a mountain or enjoying the view or a walk somewhere, and the last thing I want is for the solitude to be disturbed by anything, even music I like.

Hi Helen,
I have just gotten an ipod a month ago. I tend to listen to it when travelling by train/ air plus when out walking in the park/ country. I cant see myself listening to it walking around the shops but I'm about to buy a gadget that links into my car stereo, so I should use it alot after that.

That's when I use mine. It's connected to my car stereo via the cassette adaptor

If you work in a noisy factory doing a fairly boring job (though it has it's moments!) an iPod player is a necessity! Having my complete music collection available is wonderful and putting Radio Shows on there is something I wouldn't be without.

After a short learning period putting music on it is the easiest thing in the world.

I just got an MP3 player as a combined Christmas and birthday present and am just now trying to get to grips with putting music on it off my PC.

I liked the Ebay song too!

I have the ebay song on disc, I put it onto CD after receiving it in an email about 18 months ago I think; I frequently play it, very loud, to sidecar, but we still have a garage full of other peoples rubbish Crying or Very sad

PS I have an 18 year old grandson to put my music onto an MP3 or iPod thingy, if I had one Wink
