Since the chaos at heathrow airport because of the fog before christmas hundreds of unreclaimed luggage is still at the airport. Baggage handlers said 'they were going to deliver the luggage back to each passenger within 48 hours, but this isn't the case. ( Laughing )

I personally would put a claim in as you would get a payout from your insurance company?

Ah,

So that's what it was. We SAW ROOMS FULL of baggage on Sunday while waiting for ours, and that was at Terminal 4 which I thought had not been much affected by the fog. I'd say one room had about 1000 pieces in it, and there was a queue of about just 10 people waiting to be served.

Well, there's a surprise.... luggage is quite often routinely lost, sent on other flights or used as makeshift footballs/frisbees by some ground handling staff anyway, so having thousands of checked-in bags hanging around LHR awaiting flights that may or may not leave is a recipe for disaster.... you also get used to taking anything said re timescales with a pinch of salt.

It is alleged the BA made a fortune from the premium rate calls about lost luggage

And there's another surprise - making money from others' misfortune.

"Thank you for calling the British Airways' lost luggage helpline. We're sorry but both of our under-appreciated operators are busy looking for better paid jobs at the moment. Meanwhile, rest assured that our handling staff are expending absolutely no effort whatsoever to find your bags, which if previous experience is anything to go by, are presently enjoying their unexpected holidays in Shetland, Belfast and Ulan Bator. Dial 1 to hear this message again. Please note you have been charged £1.50 for this call. Thank you for flying British Airways - other airlines are available."
