Won't be too soon either, July apparently.
I don't suppose his sidekick will be too pleased though.............

This is surprising news is it not.
I certainly hope they bring in a professional presenter to the mid morning Saturday schedules-Johnnie Walker would be a good choice imo. |

Quite apart from "Sachsgate", I think both his TV and radio shows have run their natural course and are somewhat beyond their sell-by dates.
It's a good move, both for him and the BBC. _________________ Ron |

Why not give Lynn Parsons her own show once again? Or maybe bring back Sybil Ruscoe or Mark Goodier, neither of who deserved to have been got rid of in my opinion. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

If he's well enough I'd like Bill Oddie to take over the Radio 2 slot, we might hear some decent jazz on a Saturday!

This is good news, for us licence payers who have footed the enormous bill for his "services". To say that Ross has been overpaid is the understatement of the century! _________________ MiS |

Certainly hoping we don't have anykind of Jazz programme on a Saturday morning-only a few folk would tune in.
We need a good solid music presenter such as JW or even a Mark Goodier /Lynn Parsons type in the slot. |

Saturday is odd. Between six in the morning and six at night we have five shows which are alternately chatty/contemporary(ish) and rigidly scripted oldies. If the current slot in the middle which JR occupies is to remain that sort of format then I suppose it could well be someone of a similar persuasion (Liza Tarbuck or Graham Norton, in tandem with someone to drive the thing). If you're talking Lynn Parsons or Mark Goodier, I'd rather have Richard Allinson, and I can't see that happening.
No, it's got to be Johnnie Walker. _________________ Ron |

Well I think Chris Evans should get the slot. We don't hear anywhere near enough of him at present, and his style would be perfect to follow Brian Matthews. _________________ Minx

Of course the best solution would be to move Dermot O'Leary to the 10-1pm slot and reinstate Richard Allinson to Saturday afternoons with the Wall of Sound . |

Ross is Off, best news of the year so far. Bonus is he`s off tv as well, I might start to watch Film 2010 again when he goes.
Hopefully the Saturday show is not filled with another airhead and we can get back to decent music. RA or JW to host, but I don`t see much chance of that happening |

I would like it to be Johnnie Walker or Richard Allinson, but I have just heard on the news that Graham Norton has just been given a 2 million pound contract by the BBC, you don't think its going to be him do you? _________________ Pirate Johnnie Walker played my request on 11 April 2009 |

Seen as no-one else has said it... It's sad news for me this. He plays a selection of music that you really don't hear anywhere else on the radio, and I think he's one of wittiest and most intelligent broadcasters out there.
Also - judging by the stand-ins we've had of late, I don't hold out much hope for a decent broadcaster replacing him. Yes, my preference would most certainly be Johnnie Walker. Anyone else that has been suggested would just be too bland for a Saturday. They need someone who loves music, knows radio and can put together a good show - and sadly, not many people like that appear to be hired by Radio 2 of late. |

The Suites in the BBC thought that J Ross & R Brand leaving childish, abusive messages on the ansaphone of an elderly comic the height of "cutting edge comedy"
Can we really expect these guys to make any good decisions? |

I'm not too bothered about his chat show but I have enjoyed his R2 show, so I'm a little sad at him going.

I doubt Film 2010 will last beyond it's next series with Ross. Hopefully there'll be a new film show with Mark Kermode (and Simon Mayo) but I reckon BBC1 will quietly drop the whole thing. |

I have to say I'm sad J Ross is leaving the BBC as I enjoy his Radio show.
I know people were very jealous of him receiving such a large salary, but that was the managements fault for paying their stars such ridiculous salaries |

Jonathan Ross had been going off the boil long in my opinion well before 'Sachsgate', and I had stopped watching his TV show long before the Daily Mail led furore. His radio show was spoiled for me by his need for a 'stooge' who just giggled at his every pronouncement, whether funny or not. The Film programme was an occasional watch for me, but I was aware of his reading not too convincingly from his own script.
I met him in the nineties and he is a nice friendly person to speak to, and I'm sure he won't go short of offers. Maybe he will try to crack the USA. Well, if Piers Morgan and Cat Deeley can succeed there, then why not Jonathan? |

gaz,
Jealous?
No gaz that is not how I felt about Ross's salary. I just thought he wasn't worth it, and it was a gross mis-spend of licence-payers' money while specialist shows on R2 went poorly-funded and live music became almost non-existent.
I thought both Ross's TV show and his radio show soon became 'stale' and the reason was him, and his stooges, and his cheesy poof band, and even his cinema programme was like a cue-card read-out with no character to it.

Totally agree with John W, added to that the man is really pretty talentless.
Maybe some of that salary can be ploughed back into Radio 2 now. |

We all know Mark Thompson wasn't going to renew his contact after this year. He quit before he was pushed. I think he needs a fresh start away from the BBC. We keep coming back to the sachsgate scandal, but thats partly why he should go and obviously how much he's paid.
I wonder his company will continue to work with the BBC to produce shows?
I wouldn't be surpised if a commerical radio station hires him to take over breakfast or drivetime, as I can't see the last we have heard of him?
Danny Baker could take over the show. I can't see the station will put something not sounding similar in the 10-1pm place? |

Did a good job last time; in fact for me he was by far the best of the stand-ins, just leave him to do the job himself and don't put some irritating half-wit with him. It'd get my vote. |
