It appears Penny Smith is to get an opera show on Radio 2 in June.

I thought I read somewhere she was doing a poetry show. If she's doing both she's clearly piling up some work. I haven't watched her so I don't know her style.

Yes I read that, but if she has two opportunities lined up so quickly then it looks like she'll be fine in the longer term. After all, she is, in broadcasting terms, "an older woman" Rolling Eyes

She did a show on Classic FM. Also was a journalist at Trent and Leicester Sound in early 80's days. I bet she will cover other shows like Jeremy Vine?

I wonder if this will just be a short documentary series - I can't see Radio 2 running a weekly Opera programme - but then again, it might be in response to the trust report.

Just what we need - a bloody opera show on Radio 2. After Marcella Detroit was knocked out of 'Popstar To Operastar' I felt there was no reason to watch as all we were left with were a bunch of shrieking showoffs.
