|
|
The line used to be 'R2 is different' but after listening to a bit of Absolute Radio, heavily promoted due to Ronne Wood having a show soon , and the new R2 DJs of ZB, SM and many other ex-R1 and ILR types what exactly is R2 offering in these shows that is different to Absolute ?.
The music on Absolute and the DJs can be better. |

No 'Uprising' by Muse or 'Sex On Fire' by Kings of Leon? Those two must have been on Absolute's playlist for over a year now! Time someone told them when to rest a track, rather than play it till we never ever want to hear it again. I should add that I've nothing against Muse or Kings Of Leon themselves. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

Never listened to Absolute so I can't compare fairly, but at least it's not just R2 that has a predictable playlist then. |

Absolute Radio is totally abysmal, infantile rubbish. They have a tiny repetative playlist and their dj's are moronic . If Absolutte are so great, buzz off there.
The poor quality of absolute Radio is reflected in their catastrophic tiny listening audience.
Radio 2 is nothing like Absolute, Thank God!
Radio 2 is also very distinctive from more quality ILR stations like Magic. The R2 playlist is much broader. Their dedication to specialist music not played on any other British radio stations is distinctive and valuable.
And the Radio 2 DJs are head and shoulders above their commercial rivals in their profesionalism |

And a Happy Easter to you too!
Just had a brief listen and can only conclude you switched on at the wrong time. I've heard far worse. |

Did you ever listen to the Hometime (Hometime!!) show on Absolute??
The presenter of that show is Absolute Rubbish. He keeps talking drivel in this "oh, this is very amusing and funny" voice (it never is) & hardly plays any music, & when he does it is rather uninspiring stuff.
I tried listening after Simon Mayo on Radio 2, & I tried the same show on a few ocasions.
At least when the station was Virgin they played some proper rock music |

Different everytime radio 22222222222.. All For You Radio 22222222222.
I suppose it was under Douglas watch as the station was revolving and different everytime you listened to it. Absoulte Radio still has Leona Graham voiceing the jingles and the man who appeared in one of the James Bond films. |

I could think of at least two R2 presenters who'd fit that description. |

I can not stand the squawking of Alan Carr or Elaine Paiges' cackle, but both seem to know what they are doing
the guy on Absolutes' Hometime doesn't appear to have a clue |

There isn't a single national network radio station which is good enough to hold my attention for the whole day. I now jump between Radio 2, Radio 1, Absolute, Planet Rock, Radio 4, Jazz FM....... etc etc., but none of the above is distinctive any more.
I used to like Virgin when it first started (before Evans muscled his way in) but Absolute is now completely indistinctive due to the fact that it, too, has playlists which aren't hugely different to those on other stations.
When I'm in the house, I find myself increasingly streaming "radio" sources from the web. I'm listening to Radio Caroline right now as I work on my Mac, and the music is good enough to hold my attention. Chat is minimal whilst being knowledgeable. |

SM = Stuart Maconie? To me, he's one of the good guys. I used to love his Critical List album track show on Saturday Evenings, I'll never understand why they ditched that. Yes, I enjoyed the Saturday afternoon show that followed. Another 'Douglas diasaster decision' was when she axed that. Why? Co-hosting on the Radcliffe / Maconie show is all we hear of Stuart on Radio 2 nowadays. He can still be heard on 6 music on Sunday Evenings with his Freak Zone show. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

I think Absolute is a qualty radio station.
I paricularly like the presenter Russ Williams-a preferable choice to the outdated Steve Wright Show. |

I agree. Russ is one of the UK's finest radio broadcasters though most people know him only for his sports presenting on Sky. He's been with Virgin/Absolute since it started in the mid-90s.
I did used to enjoy his Virgin Breakfast pairing with Jono Coleman - which came to an end when a certain Chris Evans came on the scene, took over their Breakfast show and ruined it all. (Hang on........ doesn't that have a familiar ring to it?). |

SM surely isn't Stuart Maconie - definitely one of the good guys LEE. Then perhaps it's Simon Mayo, although I think he's one of the good guys too. |

I must admit i dont listen to R2 as much. The playlist is bland during the day and i mainly listen to Janice and Alex.During the afternnon i listen to planet rock but they do seem to play the same stuff as well.During the evening it's radio 6.Have to agree with everyone and say Geoff Lloyd is an awful presenter(though not as bad as Alan carr ) _________________ I found out how you can hurt an insect. It's the bees knees |

I've never heard Geoff Lloyd, but seen as no-one likes him on here, I was surprised to read Miranda Sawyer (the Observer's radio critic - who I usually agree with by the way) extol his virtues:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/tv-and-radio/2010/apr/04/absolute-frank-skinner-dave-gorman
Saying that... she doesn't like Ken Bruce or Sarah Kennedy, so I don't always agree with her. Also - I was never entirely convinced she 'got' Wogan.
Her columns are always interesting though. The "This American Life" podcast she mentions in that article is a personal fave of mine. Nice little eccentric version of Radio 4 in an hour - lovely....and with music. |
