|

Hello,
Did anyone see the link that PETA posted on the Radio 2 message boards for Compare My Radio.
The site is great and shows how many times a track or group/artist has been played on a radio station.
I checked it out yesterday and Radio 2 had played This Ain't A Love Song by Scouting For Girls 69 times in the last 30 days and Rocket by Goldfrapp 66 times in the last 30 days.
I find this absolutely ridiculous that they can play 2 songs 135 times in the space of 30 days!!!!!!
Here's the link if you missed it:-

Just over twice a day doesn't seem very excessive to me.
In fact, that site seems to prove the lie to the complaint that Radio 2 sounds too much like its commercial rivals, since 42% of what it played over the last month was unique and not played by any of the opposition.
Every one of the commercial stations played their most popular tracks more often than R2 - in the case of Absolute and Smooth nearly twice as much, and for Heart, Capital and BRMB nearly six times as much! _________________ Ron |

I like to know the lyrics to pretty much every song: so when I buy a new CD, I listen to it over and over and over again until I know every word, guitar-strum and drum-beat. So if I ever need to choose a song with just the right words, it’ll be there in my head. It’s really handy. Playing a track 69 times over 30 days isn’t that many really … it’s just over twice a day, or once in a 12 hour period, and one time in 12 hours isn’t very many at all… count em …. one.
There was one time I listened to Last Train to Clarksville.. over and over again, whilst driving from Portsmouth to Newcastle…every time I hear it now, I think oh yes 18th December 1983…. remember it well… so you see , it’s not all bad. … you can be there by four thirty, cause I made your reservation, don’t be slow, oh no no no…..It’s a really good way to make a journey seem only one song long too… : win win!! |

One song... 340 miles
My wife was a Monkees fan, she knows all the words to all the songs. If I didn't hide the CDs now and then she'd have them on permanently in the car, and sing along to them. Over 340 miles I'd go completely _________________ Ron |

If you took out anything after 7pm though Ron I reckon that figure of 42% of unique records would dwindle down to 10% or under.
It's the daytime music that is getting so repetitive.
If they must play new stuff why can't they share the playlist between more records? |

It's a matter of taste though, right. Personally, I don't want to hear Scouting for Girls once but I adore the new Goldfrapp and could hear it twice a day and be very content. I get your point though. |

Discovering that Scouting For Girls have been played 80 times in the last 30 days makes me happy I don't listen to much daytime Radio 2 anymore - but at least I don't have Capital, as they've played the band 135 times! |

I thought Michael Buble's Cry Me A River had been played a lot more than it had! _________________ We are loonies and we are proud!

Yes, me too. But just listening to it once felt four times as long as it really is. |

Maybe most people don't pay as much attention as we do - the bloke on Popmaster just now couldn't name the singer of "On A Mission" despite it being the 9th-most-played record on Radio 2.

Well, this is it. Obviously some sort of deal has been made - I think some commercial stations get job lots from record companies at cheap rates that bypass PRS, which means the same limited songs go round and round. |
