I doubt all the presenters are told straight away of new additions to the station. If she's read/seen anything in the paper then she'd have read it as something being of interest for her listeners.
Your link to the article in the Mirror doesn't work, but there's a link to it in the RadioToday article.
It looks like she's probably seen/heard some sort of report and then jumped to conclusions a bit early.
(It looks like you've copied it off a forum - some forum software packages remove the middle part of the text displayed in long URLs so as not to look so messy. You should try and do right click --> copy link in future in order to get the full working URL).

It's good practice to actually TEST the link first, too! (Mark, take note).

Well according to the Mail this morning Graham Norton is going to take over from Jonathan Ross on Saturday mornings and also his Friday night TV show.
To be honest I don't think he'll be too bad in the JR slot.

I quite like Graham Norton, and as I don't watch the Friday night slot I will only catch him on Saturday mornings. With some of their contracted presenters the BBC go in for overkill, and I hope this doesn't happen with Norton. The great British public, being what it is, does tend to build people up only to knock them down again.

| The problem with the BBC they look at talent and think those top TV presenters should host a show on Radio2. Radio 2 shouldn't be used for this purpose. I keep hearing outside the walls of aunty beeb, we are not here to chase ratings, but they are doing it. |

You are so right Mark. Just because someone is a tv personality it doesn't make them a success on radio . I can take or leave GN in small doses but I fear he is becoming a typical BBC example of overuse of limited talent.

I don't think once a week is overuse Mark. IMHO there are some presenters who I love once a week but don't feel quite so enamoured after hearing them daily for 2 weeks...........

I probably wouldn't watch him on TV so wouldn't bother me too much MiS. I don't always listen to Ross on Saturdays either.

I make a point of avoiding Ross because I don't like him, I might give GN a go on the odd occasion, Saturdays aren't really radio days for me as a rule.

They aren't for me either after SOTS MiS but I used to like afternoons when Allinson was followed by Gambo, especially in summertime!

| Well, you can’t say it’s a like for like replacement but as my last boss said to me when I complained that my new “secretary” couldn’t type, couldn’t run a diary and made terrible coffee… “Rachel, we have to work with what we’ve got”. So if GN would like to play on the internet for three hours every Saturday morning, I’ll pop into the studio and do his job really well, so that I can recommend him for a promotion and pass him onto someone else in 6-months, thus creating a vacancy for someone new to have a go at living up to his manufactured reputation. |

If Graham Norton takes the JR slot it will be his own show, rather than covering an existing format. Difficult when you consider that his humour is best suited to the hours well into the watershed. He runs an agony column in Saturday's Telegraph (alternating with Ruby Wax) and that's hardly daytime friendly either.
What we don't want, of course is an inane morning equivalent of the Alan Carr disaster.

| Alan Carr is camp. I don't think GN is camp. It's true the BBC make a product and over use it. I guess it's a done deal, radio 2 have to use the media to get the back lash from forums before they release any statement. I guess they are having Graham on Breakfast - because the station is playing songs for the Eurovision and he's part of it. So they introduce him to Radio 2 get the listeners used to him. Put Graham on a high profile show and then they say he's got the Ross slot. |

Sorry, I disagree. Graham Norton IS camp, he's just not "in yer face, blatant, childishly squawking, egocentric" camp. As is Alan Carr.

I think that they both play up the camp-ness which I find extremely irritating. There is little of interest to me on R2 these days I am sorry to say. If I can't listen to Johnnie Walker, Stuart Maconie, Richard Allison, Alex Lester, SOTS or Lynn Parsons then my radio will be off.

Nowhere near as patronising or arrogant as Chris Evans! Anyhow, In my opinion, Graham Norton has a more self-depracating sense of humour - and his guests know it so I don't think anybody considers it a problem. |

How come? It would only be an example of bad management if a whole procession of presenters were off at the same time, as happened during half-term week. There's a difference. |

I'd agree Colin. We've listened on long journeys up north and find him amusing and interesting.
Think the humour is harmless and an Irish trait perhaps?

PS Yesterday on 'can't believe it's not better' spot he played the awful toe tingling Grandma. I hated it at the time but felt a pang of sadness yesterday. My Granny lived to be 104 and today would have been her birthday (119th). For at least 15 years I would drive up north on or around the day for a day or two to see her. Yesterday we were making the same journey, same route to visit my Mum. Got to say it brought back memories of those journeys.

From memory it was the late night Radcliffe show which Sally would sometimes co present with Mark where I heard about it. It could have been mentioned on Radcliffe/Maconie as well though!
