Er, that's it really. The announcement was made on the boards a bit over an hour ago this afternoon and the closure takes effect at noon on Friday. This time the closure seems to apply to all of the boards, not just the one dedicated to complaining about Chris Evans.

Yes, it's already discussed on the other thread about R2MB.

Ha ha, I'm sure CE is something to do with the closure. Check R2MB's closure thread :

http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mbradio2/F14126215?thread=7756584

see Message 3, and Peta's response Message 8 assumes CE is the subject Razz

Did the antipathy towards Evans at Breakfast have something to do with the BBC's decision to bale out? I'd love to think it did - at least it would prove that listeners are having a collective impact.

I love the way that Peta tries to palm users off with Facebook and Twitter as viable alternatives:

The Radio 2 MB's Peta wrote:
As you know, technology has advanced significantly since we launched our messageboards over 10 years ago, with the advent of Twitter, blogs and Facebook. This means that the ways in which you can talk to Radio 2 or discuss the station with each other have changed.

The BBC Radio 2 presence on Facebook is a completely different animal, with the user agreement being between Users and Facebook itself, which means that there's no need for policing on the BBC's part. And Facebook owns all submitted content, too!

Still, nothing can be worse that the R2MB of late, so it's no loss to me.

As for Twitter, she has to be kidding by suggesting that people might think of using it instead. Twitter is the most useless online social media utility I can think of!

By the way: Are there any Facebook members here? I am, though I take no part in the Radio 2 wall at all and don't intend to.

I joined Facebook but I don't use it and don't want to either. I was going to delete the account but there have been a couple of times I've wanted to look at something in particular so just deactivated it instead.

There are some things I like Facebook for, such as re-establishing contact with old friends (such as those I was at college with in the 1970s and who are now scattered around the globe), and if anybody has any kind of presence online it's very likely that they'll now have a Facebook profile. For that reason I've found it immensely useful.

However, what I don't like is the mass of silly distractions (eg: Farmville) and people's insistence on posting every detail of their daily existence!

It's completely different to a standard forum of this sort - and Peta knows it!

You've not heard of Ping, then?

Besides Twitter is ace. I love it, and have already had interaction with BBC Radio 2 over the last few months (mainly complaining about In Concert, to be honest). I wonder if they have similar policies to my local council, who are required to answer all Twitter questions withing a short period of time?

I quite like Ping, actually - especially the way I can tie iTunes on my Mac with the app on my iPhone. It's a very clever app. Still no substitute for a discussion forum when a discussion forum is what's needed. Trouble is that forums (okay...."fora") are quickly going out of fashion.

Of course, those of us who haven't joined up won't be able to see whatever it is you're on about Marko..

( and I have no intention of joining Facebook, Twitter, Ping, Pong or anything else for that matter Laughing )

Colin the link has been sorted.

I guess there may well be some extras joining us soon. Thats if some know about this message board.

I wouldn't like to jump to conclusions, because the BBC are going to cut web pages to save money. A couple of members on the Radio 2 message boards behaviour has been disgraceful, and I'am surprised it's lasted this long. I do hope they don't come and disrupt this message board. I'am sure John is up his look out tower watching carefully. Very Happy [/code]

It's more than a few web pages - it's whole microsites and the teams that support them.

Let's not forget that the MBs have been managed appallingly, too. The blatant bias in favour of pro-Evans critics has been an utter disgrace.

Yes Colin. A certain poster has hanged himself many times. Not just on here and R2MB, but Digital Spy which is policed better. I guess he will find it hard to express his feelings about Radio 2, unless he spreads the word on Facebook, or decides to write a weekly column in The Mail Laughing

Like so many others I have come here from the radio 2 message boards with their very strange moderation standards.
Does anyone here know how I complain to them about permanently being on pre-moderation, without I might add being informed of this. If I ask in the wrong place I will have my knuckles rapped and risk being banned alltogether, which I don't particularly want as I quite enjoy the TV message boards there.

Sadie,

I'm not sure, but maybe you could start a thread titled 'Question for Peta' and more or less say what you have said here? I understand where you are coming from being concerned that you don't want to rock the boat for other parts of the BBC. She may be able to look into it.

Hi Helen,
I have tried posting a question to Peta and it disappeared within minutes, possibly by an ill tempersd pixie wearing a moderator's hat.

On the 'closure' thread at R2MB a poster Jill Hickman has said that she's having trouble registering at R2ok, quote:

"Anyone else having difficulty registering - due to lack of space for confirmation code?"

I can't remember what the registration screens etc look like so can anyone help her, and post something to her?

I've just checked the registration page. I think what people mean is the Captcha Code text input box that requires a input match on the part of the applicant member.

However, it's OK from I'm sitting. I've looked in several browsers on both Apple and Windows. I don't use Internet Explorer, though, so maybe there's a problem in that respect.

I'm not sure what it is that people are having problems with, but it could be something to do with Internet Explorer (which is the crappiest browser out there). I've just checked on both Apple Safari and Google Chrome running on Windows 7 and both are fine with the registration Captcha text box. So maybe those having problems should try another browser - always a good idea where Explorer is concerned anyhow.

Here's a funny post from Mike65 over on the R2MB just now:

Mike65 on R2MB wrote:
Either the hosts continued sticking up for the awful Evans who obviously the majority of people cannot stand or his explanation for the shutting down of this board?
It is just a joke. Obviously the BBC can no longer fight the fight for Evans and all the other awful new presenters on Radio 2 like O'Leary, Tarbuk,Ball x2, Winton and Carr. So they will take away the place for people to highlight the appalling state Radio2 now finds itself it in.
They did it with the Radio MB when they couldn't take anymore criticism of Victoria Derbyshire, Alan Green and Richard Bacon.
In fact the funniest thing is that despite using their own plant in Scott Nelson to fly the flag, they have still admitted defeat.

And here's what I posted on the R2 Closure Boards thread:

Quote:
No great surprise that the Radio 2 Boards will be closed.

New threads of late have been repetitive and provocative, and indulged by the moderator(s) to the point where some posters (myself included) have wondered about the preferential treatment afforded to one poster in particular.

Criticisms of some presenters have been allowed almost to the point of legal intervention, whereas some relatively minor remarks in respect of others have been immediately removed. I cannot be the only person believing that there is preferential treatment afforded to one or two posters (not to mention presenters) - and that has probably contributed to the demise of these boards.

This opinion will no doubt be removed within minutes, but it's how I feel, and I cannot be alone.

I won't miss these boards much, because having become disillusioned, I have rarely visited recently.

Those who were consistently and unfairly moderated will no doubt feel much the same.

It lasted about two minutes.

I confess, I was involved in a couple of bad-tempered exchanges, one of which resulted in being pre-modded, but I was NEVER rude to ANYONE unless they were aggressive/rude to me.

As a result of the post above, I am on Radio 2 Boards pre-mod again! Wonder when that will expire...?

Great to see that you've joined. Hope you don't mind but yesterday evening I quoted your message in this thread:

It was obvious it was going to be deleted due to the overly paranoid BBC board mods, so I thought it deserved a better resting place. Smile

The picture I'm getting from recent events is that the mods have been intentionally banning users in order to precipitate a closure. They say that technology has moved on - implying that forums and messageboards are yesterday's thing - but in fact it's simply that the higher echelons want cost savings and that's all there is to it.

They've probably been getting paranoid about many of the threads and posts due to the sword of Damocles that's currently hanging over the corporation.

Pity they can't just come out with it and say "We're trying to appease senior politicians, the BBC's critics in high places......... and Rupert Murdoch".
