As mentioned on another thread, I went to "An Evening with Sarah Kennedy" on Friday. Held at the Little Theatre in Leicester, the evening was a sell out; I estimate between 300 and 400 were there - mostly, it has to be said, over 50s. Make that mostly over 60s.
Most of the evening was Sarah telling amusing stories about her life, mainly her earlier years. With relation to Radio 2, however...
She told the audience that she misses them. She's still storing up stories for links out of habit, she just doesn't have anywhere to use them.
It wasn't until the end, in the Q and A (hosted by the Dearly Beloved), that she spoke about her reasons for leaving Radio 2. She told us that she felt that Radio 2 was moving in a direction that just isn't her. There were no complaints about early hours or other presenters, though she did say that she's enjoying spending more time with Adrian.
Sarah said that her professional life is on pause at the moment. She's not retired, but she's not called anyone looking for work yet, either. She's taking a few months out and says she'll look for something new in the New Year.
It was nice to hear her voice again and to learn about some of her influences. She also read out some letters that she's received (she said she's been overwhelmed by her postbag) and if anyone things Sarah is a loose cannon or tactless, you should hear some of the things people write to her!

Sounds like an interesting evening
Mention of the Little Theatre takes me all the way back to my student days in Leicester in the 70s
As it happens I'll be at the De Montford Hall tomorrow evening my first time back in Leicester since 1999
Getting back to Sarah I don't think she is really the type to slag off former colleagues but of course she might be just being a little cautious so that she can save some stuff up for any future book _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

Sarah did say that she's not planning to write a book. Her comment was that she thought there were more than enough biographies and she didn't feel that cutting down more trees for hers could be justified.
The ripple of disappointment around the audience suggested that she might be wrong!

Thanks for the report, Rob. I'd find hers an interesting book to read but she is right about the surplus of celeb biographies at the moments. The bookshops are drowning in them! |

It's not as if most of them have anything worth saying, or can even write them |

She's done about three autobiographies and hasn't even read 'em, let alone written them. (Although I hear the books are actually full of sly digs at her and that's really the appeal of them - Katie Price is not 'popular' for the reasons she thinks she is). |

Thanks for the report Rob. Sounds like she's getting on with her life, for which I'm glad.
I understand what she says about R2 moving away from her (I felt the same way myself before I stopped listening regularly ) but that sounds like a considered decision, and doesn't explain why she left without saying goodbye. She always made a big deal out of her listeners, and I can't accept that she would just walk out one day without saying anything and then decide she's not coming back. I'm sure she would have felt she owed more to them.
The truth will out sometime, I guess. _________________ Minx
