That would be disastrous. I'll switch to Radio 4 although I'd much prefer music withoug ads.

I met Vanessa in a night club in Belfast about 8 years ago
She came over as a really stuck up b---h who talked down to everyone there including members of her own entourage
She made some comment about under age people getting in and said
'You know you have to be over 18 to come in here'
I replied
'Vanessa are you talking about age or dress size'
Perhaps I should not have said it but I thought she was so patronising especially to the locals she deserved a kick up her rather large backside
I couldn't stand the thought of her on Radio 2 but I think she and Mr Evans would have a lot in common _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

How weird, I floated this when Sarah first went. She's actually not what you think - I've heard some of her London radio show, and she's really quite engaging.
Still... surely they aren't just giving her 5 to 6.30?? That seems like madness. |

Well, if we can’t have Alex and it looks like we can’t , Vanessa will do very nicely : She’s a woman I could have lunch with, or early breakfast as the case may be. Cool beans! Out of all the possible DJs for that slot, she never occurred to me but now that she’s popped up on the RADAR – she seems the obvious choice. ( I have tone! I have tone! Missile lock! Engage! Beeeeep Beeeeep Beeep Beeep Beep beeeeeeeeeeeeeeep Direct Hit! )It’s a funny old world where the old and familiar can be new and different. |

Can't understand the logic myself. I think I'd rather have breakfast with her than hear her on the radio at that hour. It depends what sort of show it's going to be; as I understand it she currently presents a three-hour vox-pop, phone-in programme on BBC London, and won the Sony award for Speech Broadcaster of the Year last year, and you would think that her intellect suits that better than a light, early morning one, reading texts and emails between the Bluebells and James Blunt. _________________ Ron |

I can't listen to her for more than a few minutes on BBC London. Never use three words where twenty five will do
Having said that, she is the least bad of that awful breed, the Phone In hosts. LBC is abysmal. All those extreme right wing idiots (the phone in hosts) ranting off the usual bigoted rubbish trying to goad their listeners intop calling.
Venessa is not that bad & mayb e she would be calmer on a Radio 2 Early show where she is not necesitated to goad listeners into calling her.
Anyway, I wouldn't be awake to hear it.
Sarah Kennedy was perfect for that early slot where I'd lay half awake half asleep in bed as I prepared to get up & get ready for work. Sarah Kennedy's gentle humour, & her sometimes plainly barking comments, were perfect for that twilight time of day between sleep & waking |

Nothing like Sarah!
Vanessa Felz is bold and brassy! I like her as well, when she's not fronting some flaky or sensationalist piece of trash television for C4 or five, or doing something akin to Jerry Springer/Jeremy Kyle.
No reason why she couldn't keep the BBC London spot, surely.
Apart from all that, I can't see why, apart from £££, she would really want such an early start (curtailing her evening social life) to act as Lester/Evans warm down/up. _________________ Ron |

Like anything I suppose, some will like her, some won’t, although I have a feeling that, on here, as ever, it will be more one than the other- tis a good thing this is not representative of the real world, otherwise we’d be in big trouble. I hope she is as good as I’d like her to be. |

I don't think this is going to play out as people suggest.
Why would the Telegraph have a head start/the inside track over everybody else.
I think we should wait for the official announcement. |

It would be unusual for both the Daily Mail and The Guardian (which was first with it) to get it wrong.
They are both careful to indicate that perhaps the decision has not been made, though. _________________ Ron |

Four and a half hours... someone else will be driving the R2 desk... a quick sashay between studios (assuming Early Breakfast isn't going to Salford).
Hardly slave labour - why not? _________________ Ron |

I suppose so. Since she's going to be up early she might as well make a day of it.
If she's a bit drowsy it might calm her down for the phone in show, too.
My only criticism of her phone in show is she over talks. Words bubble out of her. Introducing a topic she goes through about five possible listener reactions at great legnth "or did you think that...?"
At any rate, she is not so obnoxious as the idiots on LBC |

Anyway, she is keeping her mid-morning phone-in show going...

I know Radio 2 listeners are famed for their knee-jerk reactions to change... but this is a really rubbish appointment. She's quite a (deliberately) objectionable person. |

I have nothing at all against Vannessa Feltz. I just hope she'll be alot calmer in her Early R2 slot than she is on BBC London. By calmer I mean less voluable. She just talks too much |

Ha! Radio 2's comedy highlight of Christmas is a one-off from a writer of TV's The Street - well-known for it's high quota of laughs and levity |

I'm going to reserve judgment until I hear her - she might be good, she might not - depends which side of her we hear.
By the way...

Don't think I'll go to the trouble of taping the Early Breakfast when she starts. Not keen to have her on the JV show either.

Daytime R2 is now almost a complete write-off. Thankfully, there's a million other stations out there! |

One remembers her neurotic performances on I think Big Brother, does this mean we can expect Gillian McKeith being offered a R2 slot in the not too distant future? |

I read on Digital spy that she will continue to present on BBC London as well. The callers will have to watch out with her being up even earlier. |

Like Helen, I'll be sticking with Radio 4 in the mornings, well at least until KB comes on.
I hear you got a mention on Ken's show this am, H! _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

I think I'll be sticking with Smooth even though I'm not a huge fan of Simon Bates or I might give Classic FM a go depending who takes over there
Or I suppose I could just get up a bit later and not listen at all _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

It's time to re-tune the last remaining radio in the house that is tuned to R2, my alarm clock radio. There is no way on this planet that I am going to be waking-up with Vanessa Feltz.

My thoughts entirely. I find it odd that - on the one hand - the BBC recognises a need to fend off the competition posed by newer forms of content delivery (ie: means other than the traditional over-air FM and AM radio) yet it manages to succeed in driving long-time listeners away to the same alternatives it's trying to compete with.
Every day I discover much better alternatives to R2 - not on FM or AM but from "new media" sources.
Like his predecessor, Shennan really doesn't have a clue. This begs the question: Are the aims of "the Radio 2 Appreciation Society" already a lost cause? |
