I have found an excelent alternative to the dreaded Graham Norton Saturdays with the Blues & Boogie Show on Jazz FM (DAB) 10Am-1PM
But Weekday midmornings I still am sdwitching over to Magic at 9:30AM to avoid you know who on Radio 2
Magic is OK, but does get a bit repetative & bland. Can anyone suggest a good alternative weekdays midmornings to the yelping Bruce?

I like Ken Bruce but you could try listening to Mark Goodier on Smooth from 10am to 1pm

I listen to Radio Caroline - real music, real people presenting, no waffle, no incessant talking over music, no incessant and annoying programme trails - just decent music presented by people who love their music and only talk when they have something interesting to say.

Contrast that with much of R2's daytime output these days (starting at 6.30am).

I will try Caroline as well, or even Smooth (though the name puts me off: 'smooth' implies bland and unchallenging).

As I've said numerous times before, I like Ken Bruce's wry humour and his knowledge, but the music he is forced to play by the awful 'producer' is just, er, bland and unchallenging. Can't someone tell him that Human League did songs other than the awful 'Don't You Want Me', played today alongside the inevitable Hotel California.

Caroline here I come!

Excess Baggage, a docu, The Week in Westminster, From Our Own Correspondent, Money Box and The Now Show seem to do the trick for me. Oh wait, speech based radio - the horror! Very Happy

I find it pretty appalling that Gary Bones is allowed to inflict his all time Top Ten on the Radio 2 listener.

I love Ken's show but it is being dragged down by by this constant repetition of the same old songs.

I remember when Gary Bones produced Richard Allinson's saturday afternoon show when it was three hours long (i.e. pre la Douglas) As has been said numerous times, this was unmissable radio and (IMO) regularly threw up surprises among the music played that I hadn't heard on radio for years. I wonder if the narrow choice of tracks now on Ken's show isn't Gary acting on orders from higher up.

I think you will find LEE that the great music played on Richard Allinson's Saturday afternoon had a lot to do with Richard himself and not Gary Bones.

I wrote to Richard on this very point and he replied at the time he would run the running order of songs to be played by Bones in advance of each show.
