I'm thinking that Weekend Wogan has been on air for more than the scheduled time?

No.

I thought it's on air in blocks, then Michael Ball takes over. Weekend Wogan does seem to be on air for sometime. Although Wogan has been on the radio for a very longtime. Laughing

Tv and radio programming is normally commissioned in blocks of 13. The number is equivalent to a quarter of a year - ie: seasonal scheduling.

I tuned to weekend Wogan today, and do find him very embarrassing with the auidence around him.

By way of a contrast, David Jensen's programme was very good as usual! This week he featured lots of rarities from his personal collection - including early stuff from Graham Nash, Led Zeppelin and much much more.

I can't imagine why people bother with R2 on a Sunday - at least until Johnnie takes to the airwaves.

Yes have to agree Wogan on a Sunday is poor.

Was out in the car with my wife today and she even said "can't we listen to something else this is rubbish".

Hurry back Michael Ball on Sundays-I really enjoy his show.

I like Wogan but his Sunday show is awful! it just dosen't work at all with the live audience.

I heard a fair chunk of MB's show on Sunday, just made me long for the good old days when Parky was on. Ball played Lady GaGa and other stuff that can be heard any time, Parky used to play quality music that very rarely gets an airing - his Sunday Supplement was a highlight of the week with interesting guests and fabulous records.

I don't particularly care for the WW format, though some of the guests are good, but it's better than Ball.

You're probably right about the last few weeks of Parkinson on Sunday, Heloise. I sensed a certain amount of disillusionment - neither it nor his television show went out on a high.

He was a great lover of sport as well as films, so it was understandable that there was quite a bit of discussion about both. I know 5Live and 5Live Xtra are the dedicated sports channels, but you might expect some general conversation on Radio 2. Other than results of the very top matches and brief sports news inserts in Breakfast and Drivetime there is nothing.

At their peak, both Parkinson's radio and television shows introduced some good young talent from the world of jazz and big band to UK listeners - Jamie Cullum, Clare Teal, Gwyneth Herbert, Stacy Kent, Steve Tyrell, Lizz Wright, to name just a few - as well as keeping alive to the daytime audience the rich heritage of such music from the 1940s and 1950s. Since his departure that stream of new talent seems to have dried up, and you have to stalk the late evening shows for anything other than the obvious tracks of Sinatra, Cole, Bennett, Lee.

I tuned in briefly this morning in the car on the way to the shops and I have to say that Tel and Boggy had me laughing straightaway.

Tel: (At Royal Wedding time) “Well I left the country in a bit of a huff”
Boggy: “Oh one of those little Japanese cars”
Then some chat about whether Deadly had had the task of inviting William and Kate onto the dance floor in Strictly style ... etc etc.

Then an email from a listener about the problems she and her husband had faced after being sold a property in a Spanish suburb by “a large florid gentleman of the older variety” and it went on from there.

No audience .. great stuff ... back to the more intimate style of WUTW. Smile

I'm loving his new format Eileen (well new to Sundays anyway!). Last week he was talking about Wogan's Winner......

I agree. The new format is a triumphant return to form. All he needs to do now is bin off the guests. I've been recording it on my iPhone (get me) and walking to work in the morning listening to bits - it's like Chris Evans never happened. Except when you hear a trailer.

Had to switch off after 15 minutes with the same old emails from his hangers on. He should be offered to do Friday Night Is Music Night or some Docementries. At the end of the day I know he's popular with some, but I just can't stand it anymore.

Why should he be offered documentaries just because you don't like the fact that some of the Togs still continue to email the show Mark? If they are amusing, as many are, does it matter who sends them?

I agree Helen. It's a real pleasure to have Terry back doing what he does best. It's just a pity that we can't have Michael Ball on as well, maybe replacing EP?

I dropped in a couple of times but heard music I didn't particularly like so I abandoned it. It's actually the daft emails and Tel's banter with Boggy and his general take on life which I enjoy. Perhaps I'll catch up later in the week.

Ian I agree. Sometimes the interviews are so bad I think it's time he gave up, but I like the guy. Perhaps it's not the right format for him now?
