As I've said before to me quality is far more important than quantity
And yes I am talking about Radio 2 listening figures - what else _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

That’s an unusual argument, Rudds. Are you saying that the quality of a radio show goes down with increasing listeners? If Chris Evans had only ten listeners – then by your argument it would be a high quality show that would be top of your list for listening. It’s the same show whether it has one or one billion listeners. The quality of the show is entirely independent from who listens to it. Your argument sucks, and you a lawyer too |

No Rachel you misunderstand what I'm trying to say
You can have a high quality show with very few listeners or a high quality show with lots of listeners
Equally you can have a very mediocre show with very few listeners or one with lots of listeners
The point I was making is that to me what matters is the quality of the product not the size of the audience whether large or small
I guess it's getting back to the thing I mentioned some time ago about the Sun newspaper having a massive circulation compared to say the Guardian but nobody in their right mind would seriously argue that the two were anywhere near comparible in terms of quality
Far too much attention these days is paid to audience figures , circulation figures targets etc and this is often done at the expense of quality _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

The Grundian!!! Apart from it being stuffed full of loony-leftie clap-trap, they can’t even spell! Another poor example I’m afraid. I do understand what you are saying though, it's just that what you're saying doesn't ally itself to modern thinking. |

Oh Rachel I agree with you about the Guardian - I was just picking that as an example to illustrate my point and I wouldn't personally either buy it or read it but there again I do not generally buy or read any newspapers because I know how most of them obtain their so called stories and frankly they're only suitable for wrapping chips in
We can't even do that though now - Health and Safety _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

Same here
I think they've got these high numbers by simply dumping the original R2 audience and lowering the target age range |

I remember the days when The Guardian used to be known as 'The Manchester Guardian' and published and printed in Manchester only
In those days it used to be seen as a liberal newspaper - in other words not socialist and not conservative but left of centre and radical but certainly not left wing
I think since those days the paper has gradually moved further and further leftwards which is in my view a great shame
I suppose it might be as a reaction to the Murdoch domination of our media which I certainly don't take very kindly to _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

Why is so much bloody importance placed on listening figures?
The way that they are collected is hardly scientific, it leaves itself wide open to so many possible inaccuracies. No doubt that Mr Evans breakfast show is the most popular, but its similar to putting up a donkey as a Labour candidate in a Labour heartland, it would still win. Anyone occupying the R2 breakfast show hot seat would be successful, and yes we currently have a donkey........
It baffles me why R2 chase figures, this is 'our' BBC, and they should be offering something different, not the commercial inspired crap that we currently have. |

I agree kengeo
The breakfast show is always the most listened to show on every network irrespective of how good or bad the presenter may be and yes the BBC should be better and different compared to commercial stations because we're all funding it _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

I wonder how long it will be before we have a repeat of The Breakfast Show later in the day, as seems to be fashionable with the BBC right now, in repeating their 'best' shows very quickly (The Apprentice, Masterchef etc) I also note that the Friday edition of The One Show is repeated later on. |

It's OK not to place too much importance to listening figures as long as Chris's detractors don't all jump up and down like they did when they went down before!!!!
You can't use things to suit your prejudices, can you?
I agree about lowering the target age range, but I've been listening to Radio 2 while at work since I was 16 (now 43) and the only show that caters predominantly for young people is Ken Bruce's show.
He hardly plays anything that most of us at work like and he's supposedly the old guard of Radio 2.
Give me Chris Evans any time, fun, vibrant, and varied.
Can you ever see Ken doing an hour of Beatles covers like Chris did, or playing a selection of songs based on a subject he'd been talking to Lynn about?
Or taking a viewers suggestion for a song to do with the subject being talked about? It'd just be, "Sorry we don't do requests"
I really don't think so, just the same records every single day, never any proper oldies except on the odd occasion when he has a 2 minute gap until the news and Enrique, Coldplay or Kylie won't fit in the gap. |

He does actually play records based on whatever Lyn's been saying or a listener mentions. But I admit it's not that often - probably because he's not given as much leeway by producers as Evans is. |
