The Licence Fee is going too be set at £151 by 2012. The BBC is of course pleading poverty wanting it to be above inflation.
I think they need to stop paying big salaries.

Well, based on the amount of hours I watch each week, £151 will not really represent good value for money.
On the other hand, I do use their radio services a lot.... like R2, for instance. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

Who else remembers having to buy a wireless licence if you didn't own a telly?
This stopped circa 1971.

There are between 24 and 25 million households in the UK
151 X 25 million is a big number cos my desk calculator just says "E" I think short for......... Enormous...
I've had to get my scientific calculator out ( Two calculators - Posh or what?) ...£3,775,000,000... Three Billion Seven Hundred and Seventy Five Million..
R2 gets about £37.5 Million......... about 1% of your licence fee or £1.51 per year .... about half the cost of a popular menu item in MacDonald's.....
So given the choice of ....A half eaten Bigmac or Radio 2 for a year.......... I'll pass, on the dead meat. |

It could be because we're careful with our numbers and don't let them expand too far like they do dahn Sauf. _________________ Geddon

I'd happily pay the £1.51 (or even double to keep R4's output too) per year, its the other £149.49 for the freeloaders and wastes-of-space that currently inhabit the TV channels that I am annoyed about. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

I get getting rather sh*tty letters from the tv licencing people threatening me with fines etc etc - I got so fed up I wrote them an equally sh*tty letter back informing them that as I didn't own a tv or any of the equpiment stated would they please refrain from sending me their letters... I think it's wrong to assume everyone has a tv and send stupid letters out just automatically Grrrr! _________________ I was trying to daydream, but my mind kept wandering. |

They'll ignore your letter Julia and keep sending the threatening letters.
I have exactly the same thing with a property which was formerly 6 flats. They haven't been flats for 7 or 8 years now and I STILL get "an inspector will call" ! threat on a regular basis.
I'm hoping they will turn up one day, I'd enjoy watching them looking for non-existent tv's! |

Get in touch with your SHO, Julia - it wont stop the letters, but if you inform them of your position you have back-up if the twonks come banging on your door. _________________ Eternal nothingness is fine if you happen to be dressed for it. |

The BBC are getting more money every year and week when new people sign up to the licence.
I like hearing on vines show today some of the phone in listeners using some technical stuff saying the licence fee is for the equipment the BBC uses, the licence fee isn't used for radio and there is no such thing as vans which go around checking if you have a licence it's done on postcodes. It's strange JV and his team got all this information beforehand. It does to show not many BBC staff know what is going on and always fighting against each other.
I still think some salaries should be cut back. |

Drop the words "given a pay" from that sentence and there's the increase paid for! _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

The problem is he's signed a contract like the rest who get big bucks, and the BBC have a duty to fullfill, them even if it's at a cost. |
