I wonder who is being featured...unless it's a new policy to get "All" R2 presenters out of the studio. |

Will there actually be an audience - or will the sound of applause come from the same source as the whoops and applause that than be heard on his "big show" now? |

I dread to think what might be on his show. I remember when he guested Nicola Benedetti on his show during proms in the park a few years back 2005 I think, and he didn't know what to make of Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto, but fair dues it must have been the first time we heard Mendelssohn on his show!
For FNIMN I expect to find Jedward and a Bay City Rollers revival?? _________________ -

Actually, he always has Petroc Trelawny on to promote the proper Proms and plays some classical pieces to go with it. And, occasionally, even a few as part of his regular show.
I'm defending Steve Wright! Eeek. Still not sure about having him on FNIMN though. |

I'm also reminded of a joke Bob Monkhouse told against his wife - one night they went to the opera and the audience wouldn't let her go until she sang (as in 'The show's not over till the fat lady sings')! _________________ We are loonies and we are proud!

I heard tonight Jedward are representing Ireland in the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest
All I can say is that they definitely deserve each other and they have a lot in common as both are struggling to keep their heads above water _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

Funny thing is they could actually do quite well! (I bet the UK voice-over host Graham Norton will like them). |

But he's not a true British person is he Colin
He's yet another foreign imposter just like his predecessor
Why can't the BBC give us a proper British presenter for such a major event?
Mind you when you get people like Celine Dion singing for Switzerland I think that says it all _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

No, but he has made Britain his home and place of work, and the British people have come to like him.
The event has long passed the stage where it should be taken seriously, and there's probably a shortage of people who would wish to be associated with it. He's the ideal choice (I haven't actually heard him doing it - always contrive to be out or on holiday that night).
So Jedward for Ireland - I think Graham had a little dig about it on Saturday - and Blue for the Royaume Uni. The British public aren't getting any say in the matter, or choice of song, this time, so it could do well too.
(What am I talking about. We're reviled abroad... Bottom as usual) _________________ Ron |

What difference does one's nationality make? Terry Wogan gave Eurovision the humourous kick it needs. Some countries take Eurovision far too seriously.
I can't stand Graham Norton and I dopn't bother watching Eurovision anymore. It's all rigged. Only Scandinavia, Eastern Europe or former Russian States are most likely to win because of the biased voting system. |

You may well be right Ron about how seriously people take the contest now but that just goes to show how much things have gone down hill over the last forty years
As far as Wogan is concerned whatever others may feel I can't stand him so whenever I criticise Evans I really hope nobody will accuse me of being an old 'Tog' _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

The more important question is surely why we're involved in the pointless competition at all? Given that the BBC - because of the way the Eurovision network was orginally set up - stumps up a massive share of the costs, I'd ask why it's wasting so much money when so many hard-working and committed BBC employees are being made redundant.
It's ironic that The Brits (as has been evident tonight) continues to celebrate the best new musical talent in the world yet we persist in participating in that total charade called the Eurovision Song Contest.
We could host a much better event at the 02 - and attract the very best songwriting and perfoming talent, too! |

I guess Ireland chose Jedward to make sure they don't have to stage the contest there again, as they can ill afford it!

A while ago a friend of mine asked me if I wanted to see Jedward live at the O2 Arena. I kindly declined his offer. Why would anyone want to see those two muppets live in action? |

I guess for the same reason that people like to see people performing karaoke in their local pub on a Friday night...... for a laugh? |

Nor mine, but perhaps that explains why people subject themselves to Jedward in performance? They just want a laugh watching people making complete arses of themselves? |

They're two talentless jerks who were created by Simon Cowell. He should be hung from a crane for subjecting the nation to these two morons. If they are to present on FNIMN then I will not be listening. |

However, like presenters who "gabble" and others who are just plain irritating at breakfast time, the show that created them - the X-Factor - is very popular for the simple reason that it is viewed by many millions and succeeds in persuading people to part with money every time they vote by text or phone. Perhaps it's the reason why ad agencies will stump up £300,000 of their clients' cash to place one 30-second ad into the show, too.
It's popular, so it must be good!

If people like Jedward then that's their prerogative, rather like the millions of people who enjoy waking up to Chris Evans. |

Precisely! However, it was you who suggested that suffering should be caused to Simon Cowell for bringing them to our attention. Perhaps one could level the same argument against Bob Shennan for inflicting Evans on a breakfast-time R2 listenership, then? |

Chris Evans is a well-established personality. Cowell, on the other hand, creates airheads.
Bob Shennan is not my favourite man of the month. Yes, he should be strung up for some of the garbage he's plagued Radio 2 with.
Alan Carr and Graham Norton have got to be the worst of the crop. |

Oh, Shennan should also be strung up for axing Radcliffe and Maconie. There are other slots on the network they could have been moved to. I also condem Shennan for letting Mark Lamarr slip through his fingers. Lamarr was an asset to Radio 2. |

Wrong. Cowell is a very well-established and successful personality and businessman who - as it happens - has saved ITV PLC from near collapse.
You can't have it both ways. |

I never said I wanted it both ways, so why mention it? As for ITV, the company only has itself to blame for the mess it's in. |

It's not in a mess now - because Cowell's formats have put money back into the coffers.
My point is that just because a person is "popular" (Evans, Ball, Cowell, whoever) doesn't automatically confer some kind of saintly status on them.
Your defence of Evans (among others) is that they're popular and listened-to by millions, yet you denounce Cowell's involvement with Jedward's existence even though they're "popular" (along with Cowell himself).
Does "popular" automatically translate into "quality" or not? Make your mind up.... |

That's not really the point though, is it. The point is that Cowell has created a hugely popular successful and popular format that earns him millions and guarantees ratings for the networks around the world that buy into the format.
It doesn't make it "good" just because it's popular - all it says is that lots of people like it. Like Chris Evans' Breakfast Show on Radio 2.

I doubt Jedward will be on the FDIMN with Steve Wright!! Why not drag up other issues about Radio 2 in a seperate thread. |

Colin, He's not effecting your life. At the end of the day only about £5 of our £145+ licence fee pays for Radio 2.
