Good mix of music tonight, and good to hear the Dark Lord at a time when I'm able to listen live. I normally have listen to Alex's shows on the iPlayer.
Was reading through Simon Mayo's blog this morning - and he said that the reason he's not with us tonight is...

Can't say I've heard anything about this, did Bob mention anything on air at the weekend?
Looks like Tim Smith will be doing his Saturday show, with Bob back on Sunday. _________________ Fred Hart

Thanks for the heads-up - I'd missed the show live tonight but made a special effort to listen again just now. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

someone said inadvertently or not, that Bob recorded his Saturday show earlier in the week ... and one can't blame Bob for pre recording these days after he's had cancer, and doesn't want to be driving home after 3am
so not only will Bob be on tonight, he won't make any reference to being ill on Thursday or Friday as the show was already in the can |

A good show, a lot more mainstream than usual, a good "shop window" for anyone thinking of buying into the genre. Value for money as well - 16 tracks where with Bob you scrape 10 or 11.
No interviews, of course, or any great preambling. Sounded pre-recorded, in something of a hurry, and you could tell that Alex isn't used to doing it that way, but enjoyable none-the-less. _________________ Ron |

We were on holiday in Cornwall, so I had to sneak off into and then hide in the kitchen in the dark to listen on my phone, huddled under the breakfast bar with little earphones in. I was cold but what the hell- Alex was on before bedtime. I’m not keen on pre-recorded shows though but it was good to hear Alex at that time. I now understand Steve Wright’s comment of the previous Wednesday- when he played the theme tune to the Good the Bad and the Ugly after which he said- whenever I hear that I think of Alex Lester. Alex must have been there doing the recording at that time, wearing his Sombrero and Poncho and chewing on a big enchilada – that’s my boy! |
