Is it an anniversary of some sort I wonder? Or pehaps Radio 2 is testing the waters to see how well older-style music goes down during daylight hours? It would suit me! Smile

Having said that I'm glad to see Simon Mayo back on at breakfast - a slot which he should have permanently - not so keen on the Jamie Cullum bit though

Radio 2 is the UK's most listened to radio station with an audience of 14.54 million listeners. With so much to listen to it's easy to miss some of the jewels in Radio 2's crown. So, on Wednesday 22 June 2011, the network is set to turn its schedule upside down for 2DAY – a-12 hour on air celebration of everything the station has to offer – to give listeners the chance to uncover some of those gems.

In a first for the station, this special day will show listeners that there's "more 2 it" by pairing some of its presenters together to create a unique line-up of programmes that showcase exactly what makes the network so distinctive.

Playing the very best music plus a sprinkling of comedy, discussions, special guests and live performances, this promises to be a day to remember.

Starting at 7am, Jazz show presenter Jamie Cullum and Drivetime's Sony Award winning Simon Mayo launch 2DAY with guests, chat and personally selected music choices as well as a look ahead to the day's programmes.

Radio 2 Arts Show's Claudia Winkleman and evening and In Concert presenter Jo Whiley continue between 8am and 9am presenting a special version of The Arts Show. They pass the baton to double Sony Award winning current affairs supremo Jeremy Vine and Saturday afternoon's pop music maestro Dermot O'Leary at 9am who will be celebrating some of the network's best documentaries.

The day takes its first foray into live music at 10am with a very special broadcast from the BBC's Maida Vale studios where Janice Long teams up with Bob Harris and Mike Harding to introduce unique performances by folk super group The Imagined Village and Nashville country stars Gretchen Peters, Suzy Bogguss and Matraca Berg.

Sounds Of The 70s host Johnnie Walker and Sounds Of The 60s presenter Brian Matthew go head to head from 11am as they challenge the 60s and 70s to a musical duel in The Battle Of The Decades.

From midday, Breakfast and Weekend Breakfast presenters Chris Evans and Zoe Ball come together to Rock And Roll Back The Years.

At 1pm Richard Allinson presents Moments 2 Remember, the top 10 music moments from Radio 2's extensive archive of live music performances, as selected by Radio 2 presenters and voted for by the listeners.

Smooth talkers Michael Ball and David Jacobs unite at 2pm for a late lunch of Sunday style easy listening, followed at 3pm by Ken Bruce and Bob Harris's whistle stop tour around Radio 2's specialist music shows, playing interviews and music from the worlds of country, folk, brass and beyond.

Pick Of The Pops presenter Tony Blackburn and the Soul Show's Trevor Nelson go Soul 2 Soul at 4pm when they share music from their favourite genre with listeners.

From 5pm Steve Wright introduces the Comedy Hour, a sampler of Radio 2's comedy gold including a special edition of Matt Lucas's And The Winner Is and Stand Up 2 Day, showcasing the talents of the network's comedy stars.

2DAY reaches a musical climax at 7pm with a live and exclusive concert from the Radio 2 All Star band performing at the historic BBC Radio Theatre at Broadcasting House, London.

Presented by Sir Terry Wogan, this musical extravaganza combines the musical talents of Jools Holland and his band, The Organist Entertains' Nigel Ogden, Big Band's Clare Teal, brass band specialist Frank Renton, jazz maestro Jamie Cullum, classical singer and Good Morning Sunday presenter Aled Jones, Rhythm and Blues authority Paul Jones and Fun Lovin' Criminal Huey Morgan.

I've said elsewhere would this not have worked better as a special on a Bank Holiday. Why is it only lasting 12 hours and not 24 hours or longer? Why not do another for those who don't listen during the week and on a weekend?

If it was longer the programmes could've been longer than an hour.

And I have also said what if it means people would prefer more diverse choice during daytimes?

In my case whilst that's great for those who work funny hours, are retired or ill so at home, should I be working I'd miss a lot and never catch up...

It would be nice if it would attract more listeners to the parts of the schedule they don't listen to now.

I'm not sure that Arts programmes work so early in the day...

Strangely, I've often thought the station should do this. In my idle hours, I've imagined what it would be like to hear the presenters all swap around for a day. I like the idea of pairing people up though, there's some rather interesting duos there.

To my mind, a bit of a curate's egg, much like most of Radio 2's current output, but to be fair it does give us a chance to catch programmes we don't usually hear, and plenty of warning to avoid some others!

I'm dreading the so-called SOT60s v SOT70s duel. It's obvious that Brian Matthew will play the usual obscure 1961 b-sides by Adam Faith, whilst JW will play My Sweet Lord and Maggie May non stop as usual.

With negative comments like that it's no wonder people this place is dying on its feet.

Actually the Adam Faith fanbase and his record company might have good reason to feel slightly aggrieved, considering that the last time a Faith track was played was 2nd April, and it was the No 4 hit A-side How About That.

People don't value what they have until its gone which is what could happen here unless some people start treating the comments of others as being equally valid as those of their own - by the way that's a general comment and I'm not having a go at anyone in particular

Of course it is only right and proper that anyone should be free to come on here and post their views about both Radio 2 today and the situation in the past but as I understand it technically this is the forum of the Radio 2 Preservation Society so it's not really that surprising that most of us here tend to post about things in the past rather more than the present

I dare say the old 'rose tinted spectacles' comment does have some truth in it but I think that today's younger listeners to Radio 2 are far more likely to post comments on Facebook or other social websites because to them fora like this one are probably simply yesterday's thing

I do think it's good to have a decent range of ages amongst contributors here and also differing views and opinions and so long as we all conduct ourselves in a polite and friendly manner for me this places beats Facebook every time Very Happy

So the problem is in the name , cos if you read the intro on the main page, it says this...

"This is a fast interactive place to chat via messages. This forum replaced the official BBC Radio 2 Shows & Music forum which closed in December 2006 and again in September 2010"

As far as I'm aware the official BBC Radio 2 Forum wasn't limited to just yesteryear. It was very current. We're unlikely to have any impact on future direction if we hang around in the past.
