BBC announced that there will be some cut backs and job losses. Seems less comedy on Radio 2. I wonder if this could also effect celebrities been hired to cover shows?

Personally I'll be very glad to see less comedy on Radio 2 - after all it is supposed to be a music station

Hopefully that policy will extend to ditching the likes of French and Saunders on Bank Holidays and replacing their show with something that has at least some shread of decent musical content

I just wish that the policy extended to other 'comedians'on the network like one well known breakfast host

I suppose at least looking on the bright side if they plan to cut back on comedy on Radio 2 there's absolutely no chance Tony Blackburn will be leaving POTP in the near future Laughing

Technically, it's not.

Officially, "The remit of Radio 2 is to be a distinctive mixed music and speech service, targeted at a broad audience, appealing to all age groups over 35.

It should offer entertaining popular music programmes and speech-based content including news, current affairs, documentaries, religion, arts, comedy, readings and social action output."

...That's why we still have Jeremy Vine wittering away at lunchtimes, and get music and showbiz news in more shows despite the axing of comedy and book-reading slots.

Latest BBC cuts,

Summary of affects on Radio 2: Daytime programmes stay same, comedy shows to be dropped, increased repeats of Friday Night Is Music Night and more news sharing with 6 Music.

Is FNIMN the last live music programme on R2? Not good news for musicians.

Radio 3 is badly done by too, fewer lunchtime concerts and full orchestral concerts. More news sharing with Radio 4 but additional funding for the Proms.

So again live music is reduced (the Proms are mainly international orchestras). Personally I think the Proms has gotten too big, so why do they spend more?

and Radio 1, more sharing with Radio 1 Xtra. Late-night shows from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland will be replaced with national programmes.

I'm surprised to see that R1 costs smore than R3. So R3 has several orchestras and the proms yet R1 costs more. What DO R1 spend 40m on? Much live music? They just blether and play records. Surely R1 should BE PAID for playing records! Rolling Eyes

One thing I never understood about Radio 1 was the OBs they do from Ibiza yet they cut the annual summer roadshows because of the cost.
