Great to hear Steve Wright play Natalie Merchant this afternoon - especially as it reminded me she's done two 30 minute shows for... Radio 4! |

As I recall, Bob Harris likes Natalie Merchant, he certainly has featured her many times on his weekend show.
So, for me, today's track of the day has to be Led Zeppelin's 'Kashmir' on Simon Mayo's show. Well done to all those who suggested it! _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

Yes I agree - so good to hear a non mainstream track which would not normally ever see the light of day under Mr Shennan _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

Yes, I agree. I have to admit I was very surprised to hear it! I was in the car so I turned the volume up... |

Her Mastertape programmes were a really good listen. I'm a big fan. David Crosby's the week before, were possibly even better. Edwyn Collins this week, though I haven't got around to him yet...promises to be another great piece of radio.

I have just caught up with this one today,Raver...thanks! .....an entertaining listen with a person who, from the sound of him, has a smile on his face most of the time.
My track today is from Len Goodman's Sunday programme that I'm listening to now
It's a lovely old song and I was so pleased to hear it I involuntarily clapped when I heard it starting!

Will have to 'listen again' to today's Drivetime! I've just seen the playlist for today's show and it shows two possible tracks of the day for me and they are: AC/DC 'Back In Black' & Manfred Mann's Earthband 'Joybringer' (makes a change from 'Blinded By The Light') _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

Yes, both excellent to hear again - particularly Manfred Mann's track... Much to the wife's annoyance, I had to turn up the volume as we bunged the decorations on the tree _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

Track of the day for me was on Steve Wright's oldies: 'Strange Brew' by Cream, a great 60s rock song with excellent guitar, bass and percussion, and a change from the usual cheesy rubbish. How just three musicians can make such noise is awesome. |

Absolutely... an awesome track.
A substantial volume increase was called for on the car radio.
Old Wrighty mentioned a documentary on my hero Ginger Baker... when was that then? _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

I had to laugh today when Rebecca repeatedly quoted George Osbourne that Britain would soon be 'Back In the Black ' by 2017 and Simon kept playing the first few bars of the very appropriate AC/DC track
Really good that he eventually played the track in full otherwise I think he would have ended up with a large number of disgruntled listeners _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

Yesterday on Len Goodman (doing Paul O'Grady show) 'Patricia The Stripper' by Chris De Burgh. Followed by the much better known 'The Stripper' by David Rose Orcherstra.
Today on Simon Mayo's Drivetime 'Hocus Pocus' by Focus.
All these heard courtesy of 'Listen again'. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

Hocus Pocus is indeed a superb track - as Simon Mayo said - the only known rock track to include yodelling
Jan Akkerman - guitarist with Focus - for several years offered guitar tuition at Birkenhead Arts Centre - and I know a few people who had the privilege of having him as their teacher _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

I remember seeing Focus at the small but legendary Van Dyke Club in Devonport at around the time Hocus Pocus was charting. They were every bit as good live as on record and Jan's guitar skills were daunting! |

Absolutely... instant volume increase was called for on my old Motorola in the Zephyr... and plenty of air drumming was mandatory.. _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

My late father-in-law had a Zephyr. It had a column gear shift and front bench seat (or was it a Zodiac?) |

Could have been either... Mark 3 Zodiacs were rare with "bucket", or individual seats but Mark 4s were more common.. normally bech seats though. Very comfortable cars.. I had loads of them. In fact, I'd buy one today! _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

Yes.. they started off with Mk 2 Zephyrs ( not sure about Zodiacs ) and quickly upgraded to Mk 3s.. again, I can picture the Zephyr 6 but not a Zodiac (twin headlights)
Why the heck Ford didn't produce a convertible version of the Mk 3 has always been a mystery to me.. _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

My track of the day, well yesterday actually, was Northern Sky by the incomparable Nick Drake which was played on Drivetime after an appropriate introduction by Simon Mayo. |

Good choice! I didn't hear the show but if I had then Northern Sky would definitely have been my choice, too. As it happens, I was playing Bryter Layter in the car yesterday (hardly a day goes by when I don't listen to the incomparable Nick Drake, actually). |

I was awake early and caught the end of Roger Royle's show and the start of Diane Louise Jordan's programme about Christmas Carols. In the latter was played a medieval rendition of 'The Boars Head Carol'. So far today, that's my choice. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

My track of yesterday. Opus - 'Live Is Life' from one of my least favourite years -1985! That was one of the better things to emerge from, what was basically a garbage year for me. As a track, I do like it, shame about the year! _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

My Track of The Day today isn't on Radio 2 at all - it's on Radio Caroline. It's the sublime "Seventeen" by Janis Ian. The whole album from which it was taken is one of my all-time favourites, and like Carole King's "Tapestry" was one of those "Bedsit" albums that came to the fore in the early 70s. |

So far my track of the day has been Billy Joel's Leningrad.
Carole King's Tapestry is one of my all time favourite albums as well Colin. I much regret giving it away when I bought it on CD about 10 years ago. There is something about holding an album cover!

Yes, I have Tapestry and the Janis Ian album Between The Lines on LP as well as CD. I love the physical aspect of LPs - it's just all the crackles, wow and pops I can't stand any more! |

Need to add another 2 from Tony Blackburns' show this afternoon. Gene Pitney's 'The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance and The Cowsills' 'The Rain, The Park and Other Things'.
Check out the playlist it's good!

Helen, I love 'The Rain The Park And Other Things'. I wasn't aware of it until SOTS played it about five years ago.
Track Of The Day from the same show today was the similar sounding 'Sunday Will Never Be The Same' by Spanky and Our Gang. |

It must have been in the late 90s when I first heard the track Shizoidman. We were on holiday in Florida and I was listening to an oldies station on my Walkman radio and it was played a lot.
Love Sunday Will Never Be The Same as well!

Craig Charles has just played that!
He's playing some decent music this afternoon...just now Do I Love You by Frank Wilson.
Earlier he played Mambo No 5 which I can never listen to without seeing Jim Royle and Twiggy dancing, while decorating, in The Royle Family.

I'm listening again to that day's show and I'd add 'American Girl' by Tom Petty! The film I always associate that track with is FM, the one about a radio station. 'Breakdown' is also featured in that film.
And another one. 'The Reason' by Hoobastank. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

Blimey! Am I the only one hearing any good stuff on R2? Well it's a tie on tonight's Drivetime. I can't separate 'Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald' by Gordon Lightfoot, followed by 'Goodnight Saigon' by Billy Joel. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald is an absolute classic song, and a true story, which makes it even better. As good as If You Could Read My Mind.
Not the typical fare of bland daytime Radio 2. |
