Just heard a trail for this programme, this Saturday 25 Jan at 8 pm and it should be good!

I'm wondering how close it will be to one of a similar title that went out on a Bank Holiday in 1976 just before Johnnie left Radio 1? I still have a recording of that show and must admit it's still a good listen once in a while. It was a joy to listen to when Johnnie wasn't on Radio in the late 80s and early 90s.

Helen
I'm so envious that you have a copy! I had asked a friend to make a recording because I was hitch-hiking up from Devon to London the see The Grateful Dead at Ally Pally and he completely forgot to do so! Fool.
To this day I've never heard it but I'm told it was a good 'un. I do remember him talking optimistically in his shows leading up to his departure about how he was looking forward to going to San Francisco to work on KSAN. |

I'd be happy to send you a copy Colin.
It was originally on a cassette but I'm sure I put it on a mini disc. If I find the mini disc I can copy it and you can then digitise yourself, as your equipment will be better than mine I'm sure! From memory the quality was better than the recordings of his last lunchtime shows. I have it on my computer but I'm not sure of the bitrate. If you get the mini disc you can choose how you want it!

I've updated the link as R2 have changed the page content. There appears to be 2 episodes as well.

This sounds worth listening to, so long as JW doesn't devote the whole programme to his beloved Eagles.
Or 'Beagles' as the playlists insist on naming them. |

Yes, it is (it uses Sony's ATRAC compression) but in most cases it has to leave the player as balanced or unbalanced analogue unless the device has an SPDIF (or Coaxial Opt Dig) output and the capturing device can accept same. I use a TASCAM pro machine that supplies twin XLR outputs so re-digitising occurs, which in most cases I prefer. |

This hour passed very quickly. It was lovely to hear Johnnie having the freedom to play some choice music in his usual style, no talking over the tracks, or crashing them. Music radio as it should be, more please from this classy presenter. _________________ Pirate Johnnie Walker played my request on 11 April 2009 |

I listened yesterday morning and enjoyed it.
They have finally posted the playlist today. Just as well I looked again as I was going to email and complain about the lack of one!

I've just listened to the show this evening dedicated to the San Francisco music scene in the late 60s/early70s.
It was the best show I've heard in years, with great music from Spirit, It's A Beautiful Day, Santana, Creedence etc. Well worth hearing again on Listen Again.
What a shame that SOT60s and 70s don't play more of this sort of music. |

I listened this morning and it was the best one of the series so far.
