Is anyone watching this re-run of the 1974 series? It's on each week day at around 2.15pm. I noticed it just in time and set the recorder for the series (26 parts).
I am thoroughly enjoying it and especially the performances of such actors as Philip Latham, Susan Hampshire, Roland Culver, Roger Livesey & Gordon Gostelow. Still to come in future episodes will be Jeremy Irons, Derek Jacobi, Anthony Andrews, Peter Sallis, June Whitfield, Penelope Keith, Martin Jarvis and many other familiar names. Wow! What a cast list!
The costumes and settings are gorgeous, the acting superb, there is minimal background music which doesn't intrude and every word can be heard. |

Indeed. There's a reason for it, of course. If it was a "television studio" production made electronically as opposed to being shot on cinema film as per feature films, as all dramas are made now, the means by which they could achieve a complex sound dub didn't exist, so simplicity was enforced on them. And a good thing too, I say!
Oh, and I did have the hots for Susan Hampshire - but I'm sure I wasn't alone in that respect!! |

Me too Colin but I seem to remember her from the original sixties series of The Forsyte Saga along with Eric Porter,Nyree Dawn Porter and Lana Morris - the latter of whom did it for me at the age of 12 even more than Susan Hampshire _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

Oh, that was a lovely moment!
Glencora was so delighted and grateful when Plantagenet paid Burgo Fitzgerald a large sum of money to help him out of a desperate situation. Plantagenet's reply was something on the lines of: "He loved you, Glencora, and I love you so that makes us brothers." |

I set the recorder, went shopping, came back - and the recording had failed and it's not available on iPlayer . |

The whole of the series of The Pallisers is on Youtube so you can watch the first one on there,if you like, and then (hopefully) successfully record the rest.

Thank you for that, Becky. I have just watched the first episode and loved it. I might even buy the complete DVD one day. |
