That's good Helen. It will, partly, make up for the lack of Black on Sunday nights . |

Thought you'd both be pleased, we need something to cheer us I'm thinking!
It's a 6 week run so I wonder if there will be more in the new year?

Great news, I really like the way Bill presents his shows, it is just like he is in the room reminiscing with you.
Radio 2 could be so good....if only..... _________________ Pirate Johnnie Walker played my request on 11 April 2009 |

I'm just listening on iPlayer as I was busy last night. No playlist but maybe that's good as it's all a surprise as I listen.
Bill's sounding good and the tracks are too so far. It was so good to hear the opening bars of Duane's 'Because They're Young' once again.

I caught up with this yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it....you can always rely on Bill for good music and interesting chat.
Didn't know the story of how Bobby Vee's career got started,at just 15,amidst the tragedy of Buddy Holly's death.
(Still no playlist,as yet, for this programme,Helen...rather annoying!.) |

Wish there was a playlist as well Becky, if only to put some of the tracks on to my 'playlist' using the 'playlister'.
I knew about Bobby Vee, and I've always loved his songs.

I caught up with it today,Helen. He played one of my favourite Johnny Cash songs.. Ballad Of A Teenage Queen. On the version I have of it The Everlys join in with him. Another one I liked was Don't Make My Baby Blue by Frankie Laine ...have only heard The Shadows sing that before.
The playlist saga is getting beyond a joke! |

Just listened to this week's episode and I think it's got to be one of his best ever. There wasn't a bad track on it, goes without saying that I've recorded it!
I hadn't realised that Bob Crewe had died recently either.

I wouldn't have known that name,in isolation,Helen. He was a very talented man and co-wrote some classic songs...this included.

Goosebump time for me listening to the last but one song on Bill's programme this week.
Don't know whether I'll look for the link on Youtube as Bill urged. |

Just catching up with last Monday's edition while I'm doing some sewing.
Can't believe tonight's 6th episode will be the last of the current series. I hope he'll at least be back at Christmas and perhaps with another short series in the New Year as he did previously.

He was,Helen.
It's a very comforting sound hearing Because They're Young at the beginning of each programme because you know there will be lots of good music to follow.
I love hearing Bill talk so didn't agree with Alan who emailed in to ask him not to talk so much! He also asked him not to play Dion all the time so Bill compromised and played the beautiful Where or When by Dion and the Belmonts.
Still no playlist for this programme!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Thanks for this Angela, I'd almost given up checking the late night schedules as I haven't really found anything I'd fancied in a long time!
I didn't listen to last week's though as I thought it was a repeat (?) but looking at R Times it's a new one from tonight which is good news.!
I may try and download it to listen to later as I'll be away for while.

Don't know if anyone listened to Bill on Christmas day at 4? I didn't and have only just got round to checking it. Guess what they actually put a playlist up.
It's a bit late but the tracks look good and I love Bill's stories so I'll listen later and maybe record it.

Caught up with this at long last this afternoon and it was a great programme.
I didn't know that Bill has been ill (hence the repeats back in the autumn of his shows) but he did say he will be back in the spring, thank goodness.

Bill is indeed back on Radio 2 starting tomorrow night at 10pm. Heard a trailer at lunchtime and he sounded good!

It's a series of 4 only this time Angela, which is a shame, but better than none at all!

Just listened online and it was great to hear Bill's voice again. A nice mention for Ed Stewart and a track I always associate with him.
Plus there is a PLAYLIST! It's only taken 6 series, so hooray!

And an equally nice mention for Terry Wogan,Helen, with a lovely version of True Love by The Everlys for Terry and Bill's Mum.
Loved his 'story song' (Tommy Roe..The Folk Singer) this week and didn't know that Someone,Someone by The Tremeloes was a cover of a song first recorded by The Crickets.
Good to have Bill back with his record choices and reminiscences of time gone by. |

Enjoyed part 2 this morning while I was doing an awkward sewing alteration. Bill's voice saved me from getting frustrated!
According to Radio Times this was 2/6 so fingers crossed they have it right!

H | I think you should let Bill know how he helped you at a fraught time,Helen...it might bolster him as he has another listener who complains that he plays too much Dion and talks too much. I haven't heard all of last nights programme yet but I heard the bit where he was talking about Frankie Vaughan and his Mother and Aunt.
Long may he talk 'too much'. |

I've often thought of writing but somehow never got around to it. I heard his comment about the listener who complained about his talking too much!
Am a week behind with my listening as life keeps getting in the way, so hope to catch up with this week's show over the weekend.
It seems there are only 5 shows in this series now . I wish they would make up their minds.

Only 5?..an odd (in both senses of the word) number..I wonder why.
He mentioned on one of his programmes about being on Desert Island Discs so I found it on-line ....no surprise that I found it an enjoyable listen. |

I thought it very odd as well Becky. The first said 1/4 in the Radio Times, then it said 2/6 now it says 3/5............

I wish they could get it right, the Radio Times isn't the magazine it was before it got sold on.
There just isn't enough of Bill's sort of programmes on the radio any more. It is nice to hear someone with a genuine love for the music and who knows what they are talking about. _________________ Pirate Johnnie Walker played my request on 11 April 2009 |

Have just listened to this week's episode and loved the story about 'Spot The Tune' which had Marion Ryan as its resident singer. I can remember watching it probably around the age of 9 or 10 with my Dad who still played in his band then so we'd try to guess the tunes! It must have been on a Tuesday as my Mum always went to the pictures with her friend, my 'auntie' Betty so I got to stay up and watch TV with Dad.
Great tracks as usual, my favourite being 'Forget Him' by Bobby Rydell.
