Listened to this show today almost by accident after making a point of checking out the Northern Soul feature at noon presented by Charlene Spitari which incidentally was pretty good
I thought this was one of the best shows I've heard on Radio 2 for quite a few years very ably presented by TB
Most of the tracks played were either sixties or early seventies tracks which are well known but were never Top 75 hits in Britain - some of them even I had never heard before and I like to think that I know a fair amount about music and sixties music in particular
The thought went through my mind 'Why can't SOTS play this kind of stuff on a regular basis' - come on Mr Swern if you can produce the goods on New Years Day you can do this on a far more regular basis
If any of you didn't catch this show I strongly urge you to check it out on 'catchup'

I totally forgot about it Ruddles so thanks for the reminder. I've not listened to much radio at all over Christmas, had family staying and other things on my mind. Looking forward to things hopefully getting back to normal.....

Well.... there's a few pages of discussion there! I've never felt normal in my life.
Yes it was a good show with lots of great tracks... typically, I partially ignored it as I was recording it on my Roberts R... only to find I had run out of card space half way through.
I had to record the Northern Soul show for Mrs SF... and as usual, I don't see what all the fuss is about. Most are just straight pop songs?? _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

Thought someone would pick up on that LOL!
Sorry to go off topic here but SF have you ever had to do a factory reset on either of your Roberts? Mine is the 83i with the internet but I can't get the ordinary Smooth local on DAB since they changed things and the 'tech'(Roberts) dept said that should remedy it. I can get it on my Roberts alarm clock radio (a year newer) but I'm not sure I want to go though all the rigmarole of the reset.

I don't remember if I have or not Helen... I'll check to see if I can get Smooth on DAB with my 83i.
I have a new Roberts "R" radio now which, for the money - about £50 over Ebay, is pretty good. it will record to a card and has rewind too. _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

I looked at the playlist, ruddles, and couldn't believe that some of the songs played hadn't been hits in the UK. I then had a proper look at what the programme was all about and all became clear
Some great songs....will hopefully have time to listen again...thanks for posting. |

Thanks SF. When you scroll it shows Smooth Xmas (now Extra) and another Smooth which is what the ordinary one is on but in a '?' and when you click it says no signal or something similar.
I can get on the internet section but it keeps dropping out.
I've looked at the R radios and wondered what they are like. _________________ 88 - 91 FM this is Radio 2 from the BBC!

Ok Helen, this is what I get...
On my 83i, ( located first floor to the East ) it shows Smooth Norfolk which works ok, Smooth Radio 70s (?) which is dead and Smooth Extra which also plays ok.
On the Record "R", ( located ground floor West ) I get Smooth UK and just plain Smooth... both of which play ok.
I'm very pleased with the Record "R"... so much so I bought another. It's lightweight and works fine apart from the stupid "fast" forward / rewind feature on playback. I don't think Roberts understand the meaning of fast!
For £50 ish though, it's great.. _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

Thanks Sante Fe, it's the equivalent of your Smooth Norfolk that I get the (?) beside.
I need to alter the internet connection due to new router so maybe I'll bite the bullet and do it! Roberts tech used to be good but they don't sound very switched on when you phone them these days. I'd started to listen to Smooth over breakfast but lost it when they brought in the Xmas which is now the Extra.

I have two Roberts,Helen...one a dab clock radio and the other a recordable one. The backlight on the recordable one started going off a few seconds after turning it on so I emailed Roberts and they said to try a factory reset to see if that resolved the problem. I did and it worked! It's a bit of a faffing about setting all the stations again but was worth it. |

Well I did the factory reset this afternoon, easy apart from getting it to pick up the new router! Got Smooth now and Magic on DAB.
Got to check the playlist Ruddles and a few that I didn't believe weren't hits! I must record it later in the week as a lot of good tracks there.
