I liked Nanci - even more so when she went a little more mainstream. Her versions of other people's songs were usually the best, too, as in From A Distance and Once In A Very Blue Moon.
My best mate Steve, died far too young, 25 years ago, ravaged by the Big C. He loved his music, Hendrix, The Faces, Fats Waller, Ray Charles were big favourites. Eclectic tastes. He used to listen to GLR (BBC Radio London) when it boasted shows by Johnnie Walker, David Hepworth, Tommy Vance and Bob Harris to name a few. Amazing station at the time. This was before they gave Chris Evans his chance...anyway, I digress. He had this played at his funeral, which I'm sure he must have heard on the station. I'd never heard it until then.
Nanci covering the great John Prine's Speed of the Sound of Loneliness. Gets me every time.
