Now that traffic to the Police UK website has settled down it's very quick now (late evening) so I've had a look round our area.

In December, in our area 2 miles radius,

one crime 'on or near' our street, but round the corner 19 !

'Other crime' is 15 of that 19, which includes shoplifting so I'm wondering if that includes shoplifting at the Asda supermarket which is off/near that street.

Another 'hot spot' is a little cul-de-sac of bungalows with 18, that's an oddly high figure, and another 20 in a street of big posh houses but also a McD's and two petrol stations

Nearest burglary is a mile away, nearest violent crime was just round the corner!

Yes John but what is classified as a violent crime might be something as minor as one person pushing another in the course of an argument which would be charged as common assault which is classified as a violent crime

I think the whole system is very dangerous not least because it runs the risk of creating crime ghettos where it will become impossible to sell your house rather like school league tables distorted the housing market

It could also create a situation where certain areas become uninsurable and there could be certain other anomolies quite apart from the cost involved of running the whole scheme

It's one of those things which sounds ideal in theory but in practice can create an awful lot of problems

As I understand it, abandoned 999 calls which cannot be traced to a specific address are registered at the address of the Police communication centre, which may be in a quiet residential area. This reflects badly on the local area statistics. I believe some forces (including my own local plod), use a bogus address for these "mickey mouse street,lincoln", which cancels out these bogus stats, but others do not.
Perhaps the Home Office should issue some directives.

Cool beans.. No crime in our road and 2 ASBs round the corner- quite a few, 82, in the town centre though.

Not sure what this site is for apart from a brief interest now as it's new and then if you were thinking of moving to an area?

3 in my street 1 burglary, 1 ASB and 1 AN Other Peterborough south (the better side I believe) 174 I nearly fell off my chair

Very little in our area, even, relatively speaking, in the town shopping centre which has several pubs, takeaways and two supermarkets.

I do tend to agree with ruddles, although people moving into any area would make enquiries of friends or people living locally, and insurance companies already have this information, in addition to their own claims experience, and they already load premiums according to individual postcodes.

For example, there is much more shown in the western part of our NG postcode, the bit within the city boundary, and this will come as no surprise to anyone who knows Nottingham.

It has taken me ages to get on to the site. On checking I find that just round the corner from me there is an ASB.............. Shocked

that is a street of elderly people...... Shocked

I saw the data relating to my own postcode, and my first reaction was "So what?".

Another case of statistics revealing a lot whilst also revealing nothing.

What a complete waste of resources (not to mention data). Let's have a portal containing the results of user-generated data in which we can see a graph containing details of "crimes that people don't bother reporting because they know their Police won't bother turning up". Now THAT would be interesting.

Just did mine via facebook beacause i was bored and since December in a one mile radius we had 412!!! we do have a nightclub or two nearby and most were asbo's
Saying that i have lived in lowestoft 6 years and i have been broken into and had my car stolen but in 34 years of living in London not one thing
