Even though Johnnie is one of the very few R2 presenters for whom I have the utmost respect, I have to say that Dave Foster's programme on Radio Caroline this Sunday is the better listening option for me. We've had such a great mix of the kind of music I like - everything from Hendrix to Kasabian, Strawbs (no, not "that" number either!), The Who, several bands I've never heard of before and even Tom Robinson's superb "Power In The Darkness". I'd almost forgotten about the latter; it's a very powerful openly political statement from TR and a great rock number. I remember seeing the Tom Robinson Band perform this song during the "Rock Against Racism" tour of the late 70s and it sounds as powerful today as it did then.
And, given the increasing civil unrest we're witnessing now, it's just as relevant!
I'm glad Radio Caroline is still functioning as a viable radio alternative to the audible pap that fills our airwaves - and I also like the restrained style of the presenters who let the music do the work. Yes, we do get the odd email from listeners here and there but they nearly always add some useful info or interesting anecdotes to the mix.
I do wish Shennan would listen - he might get some ideas as to how it should be done!
Wouldn't it be nice if Johnnie Walker would commit to a regular slot on the station he still maintains a very close connection to? |

Yes it would Colin.
Have you heard that one of the Kent MPs is trying to get an Early Day Motion for Radio Caroline to get a slot on the medium wave in time for their fiftieth anniversary in 2014?

Angela - yes, I read it on the RC website last night and they've been prompting listeners to write to their own MPs. I'll do so in the coming few days.
I know AM / Medium Wave is yesterday's radio medium but it's a start. If the current government is committed to opening up the airwaves as they say they are, this could lead to a bigger Radio Caroline presence over air. Heaven knows - we need it right now!!!

Colin, I'm not sure if I've put the bracket in the right place but I am sure that you will soon tell me! I don't know why it did that, I have thinned a quote down before and put it in my post without the words "quote" appearing.

Bravo to Dave Foster for playing Strawbs songs other than THAT hit. And Tom Robinson Band's 'Power In The Darkness' - TRB are another under the Prince From Snow White Syndrome on R2.

Did you hear the mistake when he backannounced 'Madness' from Madness's 'One Step Beyond'? He credited it as 'Chipmunks Are Go', which was the track after.
I enjoyed the Hairy Bikers though.

Did anyone else hear the bit of Wilson Pickett's version of Sugar Sugar on the My 70's spot?
I know now that Duane Allman played on this version, but Pickett wasn't snooty about songs to cover!

When he played the Bryan Ferry version of the Beatles's She's Leaving Home, it took me back to how much my sister thought it was blasphemy when he did It's Only Love on the Extended Play EP!
She was a Beatles fan and her friend at the time was crazy about Roxy Music. A Song For Europe (on the first episode of the 'Thrill Of It All' documentary)left my sister unmoved when her friend raved about it. I thought of the both of them when I saw the Eddie Jobson feature in Classic Rock Presents Prog!
