It has to be said that's a really rotten line up for the halfterm week.
Huge headache, too, for anyone looking for a C list celeb to open a supermarket that week! _________________ BBC 6 Music. Like Radio 2, but on a good day! |

Trying to find Caroline on the Tune In app but there's that much stuff there I can't see it! |

Tap "Browse" on the bottom toolbar and then type "Caroline" in the search box at the top. It's the first one on the list (there are several! but the blue bell and the strapline "Real People, Real Music" is the real one). When you have it, add it to Bookmarks (upper right). Click "Options" to see all the other fab stuff in the app.
If you want to record a transmission, simply hit the Record button bottom left. It's that easy!
There are loads of additional options - eg: timer recording setup, etc - under the Options tab.
The TuneIn Radio app is the best 59p I've spent in a long, long time - and makes you realise how truly appalling R2 is for much of the week! |

Can't believe I didn't see the search box at the top of the main page!
That's it stored along with a few other stations..... that is a fantastic app! |

It was "App of the month" with Mac User (a mag I write for regularly) and it was their Deputy Editor who told me about it.
There's some very, very good stations in the massive list too. |

Bob "Somebody show me what a Controller is supposed to do" Shennan needs somebody to take the JV even more down-market than it already is, and since Feltz does a naff downmarket talk show in BBC London she's obviously the right candidate! |

I'll be listening to Mark Goodier on Smooth from 10am until 1pm so I can avoid the dreaded Ms Ball and Ms Feltz and I'll probably listen to Radio 4 for the last hour
It's disgraceful that such action should be necessary
As Hedgehog said why can't we have one of the previous stand ins (so long as its not Matthew Bannister) _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

Thankfully there's such a huge selection of listening alternatives so it doesn't really matter... Radio 2 is shooting itself in the proverbial foot, and I'm almost past the point of caring! |

Mark it's not all 'time off' as in holiday as the last fortnight he was off was to do Eggheads as he said so himself. A slight difference I think you'd agree...........

Too many seem to get time'off' to do other things, incl CE, DO'L, JV, SM , they should work for R2 and give us consistency and less standins |

You can't stop anyone who is freelance from doing what they want though Nod. The BBC obviously wants to employ them that way so it's not the presenter's fault. If you were in their shoes no doubt you'd do the same?

That's pretty much how I see it so it's fortunate that Tony wishes to come in for one show per week and do it "Live" but if a broadcaster is as good as Russell Davies and David Jacobs on Sundays a recorded programme still sounds good.
For only an hour a week I think it's reasonable that they record so many in advance. |

To have so many off at the same time would never of happened a few years years back, but I guess this would have been the schedule with the then accepted stand ins.....
Breakfast - Johnny Walker
Mid Morning - Richard Allinson or Mark Goodier
Lunchtimes - Clive Anderson
Afternoon - Mark Radcliffe
Ah, those were the days!
Anyone else think of any other regular stand ins? Maybe going back a bit further? |

Going back about ten years when Richard Allinson had the midweek late night show. Lynn Parsons was regularly heard deputising for Richard when he was on his hols.
There was a period when either Chris Hawkins, Mo Dutta and sometimes Liz Kershaw would sit in for Janice Long. The same three also heard on Alex Lester's show when Alex is away, Tim Smith is also regularly heard deputising for Alex. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

The word "great" isn't one that immediately came to my mind. It all looks distinctively average to me - particularly so since one should really be expecting more from "the world's most listened-to radio station". It's all a bit lame.
Correction - it's very lame!

Madeley, Ball and Tarrant have been regular stand-ins for sometime now. If they were not popular with the audience then they would not be continuously used as stand-ins.
I know people on this site in particular have big issues with Ball sitting in for Bruce. I really don't know what all the fuss is about. |

Radcliffe and Maconie also gabble. So does Chris Evans, Michael Ball, Graham Norton, Elaine Paige, Simon Mayo, Jeremy Vine and Paul O'Grady. It's all to do with one's radio presentation.
If Zoe Ball was unpopular then she would have been axed long ago. Clearly, Ball is popular with the Radio 2 audience. The problem is some listeners still living in the days of Martin Kelner, Ed Stewart and Jimmy Young |

Well, we obviously disagree on the definition of the word "gabble".
Matthew Campbell wrote: | If Zoe Ball was unpopular then she would have been axed long ago. |
I didn't accuse her of being unpopular, I said she "gabbled". And she can gabble for England.
Matthew Campbell wrote: | Clearly, Ball is popular with the Radio 2 audience. The problem is some listeners still living in the days of Martin Kelner, Ed Stewart and Jimmy Young |
I'm sure there are, but it's interesting that you point to presenters who could enunciate in proper sentences without gabbling. |

You talk about Zoe Ball (and Chris Evans) as if they are unpopular. I've read your comments about Ball and Evans and you always shout down anyone who defends them. You may not like their radio presentation but millions of others do. Evans still attracts more listeners than Wogan ever did. Period. |

I'm not "shouting down" those who defend them, I'm merely stating that Ball gabbles. And she does. If people are happy to put up with it then I'm very happy for them! (and that goes for the other person to whom you refer, too). Period! |

Well they are usually quoted along with the other oldies you mentioned for a start, and as Colin has just said they aren't gabbler's.

So what if Zoe Ball "gabbles" a lot? Like I said, it's to do with her radio presentation. I have also pointed out that she is not the only person who gabbles on Radio 2.
You never have a good word to say about Evans and Ball despite their popularity. |
