That's interesting Mark
I think provided it's the original members they'll get some good audiences
I might even go to Liverpool myself if I can manage to live with with all those screaming middle aged women _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

I'd like to see Mike Nesmith as he did some good stuff, but they must be all in their late 60s by now?
Don't think I'd go and see them.

Three of them were on The One Show this evening. Don't know which one was missing. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

I saw them at the MEN on their last UK tour - they were very good, a bit "showbizzy" if you know what I mean? It was just Dolenz and Jones by the time they reached Manchester though. |

Mike Nesmith was the talented one. He isn't part of the re-union! It was funny watching the two One Show presenters referring to 1960s TV shows by The Monkees without having the faintest idea what it was all about - but managing to read their autocues properly all the same!
At no time did anybody mention the absent Nesmith, which I thought a bit weird. Did anybody in the studio known there were four Monkees? I guess it was a condition made by the PR people that it shouldn't be discussed. |

When I saw them, Dolenz and Jones did a bit about "all the great songwriters we had, and one of the greatest was Mr Michael Nesmith" before playing a couple of his songs. |

That probably explains why he's not on the tour Colin!
Didn't see TOS but as you say I doubt many in the studio would know anything about them.

I have a couple of Nesmith country-style LPs which I bought in the early 70s. I'll have to dig them out and give them a listen, once I've rigged the record turntable up!
His songs were so different to anything he ever did with the group and it's clear that he was in it only for the career leg-up it offered him at the time. |

The Welsh bird announced "The Monkees are here in the studio!" and my wife immediately commented "Well if that's the case where's the fourth one?".
Never once was he mentioned! |

I wouldn't want to see them with one of the original members absent
I don't ever watch the One Show as I'm always worried who will be presenting the show so best to play it safe in my view _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

I think the Monkees have had nearly as many reunions/comebacks as I've had hot dinners (this year) - Matt Baker did allude to that - and none of them have included Mike Nesmith, who was clearly a disaffected member long before he actually quit in 1970.
My wife loved their records in their heyday - , plays them in the car, knows all the lyrics, sings along to them (stop me if I've told you that before) - and did go to see one of the more recent concerts. They weren't bad, but they weren't the same, was the verdict, as I recall. _________________ Ron |

Now that Matt Baker is on the books properly it's a fair bet that you can risk tuning in on Mondays - Thursdays inclusive....... but I know what you mean. There's a always a chance!

Ken Bruce plays a few of his songs from time to time, notably "Rio" and "Different Drum" which Linda Ronstadt sang. |

Here's a rare Monkees track track. When did you last hear 'Listen To The Band' played anywhere on the radio? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AweItvbPmBQ _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

My sister and niece saw Mickey Dolenz in the role of Tracey's dad in Hairspray this year!
But he was always more of an actor than a musician.
Jarvis Cocker played Porpoise Song the week someone was on discussing the band's musical legacy. _________________ We are loonies and we are proud!

I liked The Monkees, they did some damn good songs in 67/68, though it was pretty clear that Mike Nesmith preferred more serious music and would leave the band.
Incidentally, I thought that Micky Dolenz on The One Show was highly embarrassing: shouting, interrupting and being totally unfunny.
In fact he reminded me of a certain Friday One Show presenter! |

Daydream Believer and I'm a Believer were both great songs. A school mate had their first LP and would bring it round to my house from memory there were a few good ones on it.

Yes, they were great songs indeed - written by the late John Stewart and Neil Diamond respectively.
We used to play "the Monkees" in the street (for real!) and also in the school playground. I was Davy Jones. My mate Paul, who was Peter Tork, used to attract the most girls though. Perhaps they knew I was Ena Sharples' grandson! |

Daydream Believer was a classic. Other goodies were A Little Bit You... I Wanna Be Free, Pleasant Valley Sunday and Valerie.
Talking of Corrie (which I never watch), wasn't Peter Noone (Herman) also in it? |

Indeed he was - I didn't know that but have just googlified it and found this:
"In its forty years a whole host of young hopefuls have simply passed through on the way to fame or fortune, and they include Peter Noone (lead singer of Herman's Hermits) Davy Jones (of The Monkees), Molly Sugden, Joanna Lumley, Prunella Scales, Martin Shaw, Ray Brooks, Michael Elphick, Michael Ball, Richard Beckinsale, Max Wall, Paula Wilcox, Ben Kingsley and Joanne Whalley-Kilmer."
It's at the bottom of Paragraph 5 on this page. |

Apparently they have just cancelled the remaining 9 days of their US tour.
They were pondering on the reasons on a US station I was listening to yesterday, thay ranged from poor organisation of dates to Mickey Dolenz going into rehab............

If Mickey is going to rehab I wish him all the best. Perhaps that explains his behaviour on The One Show in February referred to above. |

My sis had the Monkees lps....i played them when she was out....lot of great songs...the worst were the mushy ballads sung by Davey Jones...i reckon he was their Ringo...give him a song to shut him up......Still love Last train to Clarkesville a song about a draftee going off to Vietnam....the di di di di di bit in the middle was meant to replicate a machine gun though i think they played it down at the time to avoid controversy
