Whatever you like/dislike in music and we know especially in pop music the audience at concerts scream(look at the concerts in the 60' when Cliff Richard, The Rolling Stones and The Beatles etc...)

But...

I tuned in to the Tayler Swift concert after hearing/reading all the positive publicity about her and it was spoilt by the screaming and shouting of the small audience that had managed to get tickets via Radio 2(It either took place at Abbey Road Studio's or the BBC Theatre in Broadcasting House) so was quite itimate.

I'm all for people enjoying themselves and an atmosphere being created but every time she said something to the audience or asked a question they just screamed. After a few minutes it just became annoying to those of us listening at home.

Is it not possible to take a more direct feed and turn down the mikes in the studio/theatre?

I think that problem although annoying might have been rather a one off

When I went to the Manics In Concert gig a couple of months ago in Blackwood there was an enthusiastic atmosphere with about 300 people there but no screaming preventing what was said being heard

It came over fine on the listen again and I think it might be a question of how competent the technical staff are on any given occasion

The laughable thing is that if Tyler said are you enjoying yourself...istead of the crowd shouting back yes...all she was getting back was a scream Laughing

Dare I say and it might be interesting to see if this has anything to do with it...the age and sex of the audience they had there...it did sound mainly femail(runs away and hides)

In a small venue you're not going to be able to exclude extraneous audience noise from the balance - even with directional mics on stage. Usually, the sound guys will sling in a stereo pair over the audience to pick up "ambience" and it's always possible that they push this up in the balance. However, a loud audience in a small venue is going to be heard by most of the mics.

It doesn't usually bother me and hey as it's a live event you want everyone to have a good time but this concert it wasn't so much of a problem during the music more the stupid response between songs even if she said something not directed at the audience they felt that they had to scream. Laughing

I wonder how many were squeezed into the building?

(It was performed at the Abbey Road Studios)

I've just heard one of her live tracks from last night played on the Ken Bruce Show and the audience did seem rather over enthusiastic as if someone there was egging them on Confused

The audience could be a bit annoying, but I have to say the whole concert was lots of fun. Taylor was lovely, played very well and had a bunch of catchy songs. Overall, it was a much more enjoyable listen than most of the "In Concert" shows - not even Jo Whiley's smug, restrained, contributions could bring it down.

Still don't know why it's on instead of Radcliffe & Maconie though.
