From BBC news website
Wogan receives home city honour
Broadcaster Sir Terry Wogan has been honoured with a lifetime achievement award in his home city of Limerick.
The Irish-born TV and radio personality was presented with the honour by prime minister Bertie Ahern, who hailed him a great ambassador for the city.
"We want to thank you for the hours of entertainment you have provided to millions on both sides of the Irish sea," said Mr Ahern.
Wogan's BBC Radio 2 breakfast show attracts nearly 8m listeners each week.

I dont know how much real connection Wogan has to Limerick. His family lived there for a few years while his father was posted there with work, but in truth I think he is more of a Dubliner. Still Limerick doesnt have too many other claims to fame. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

To paraphrase the Duke of Wellington, being born in a stable does not make one a horse. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Hamish Imlach was born in India, but he was still a Glaswegian, well thats what he told me. Bit like when he was playing in a club in Glasgow, he was asked if he was a proddie or a catholic, his reply was, "atheist". Ten minutes later the guy came back & asked, "are ye a proddie atheist or a catholic atheist"

Thanks a lot for ruining a perfectly good thread with all your nit picking.
I've clearly overstayed my welcome so I won't be bothering any of you again. |

Oh come on. Not need for the melodrama. I like Terry as much as anyone. It doesnt mean we cant poke some fun at him every now & then. Heck that's what most of his listeners do during his show. My only point was that he has verylittle association with Limerick now or indeed when he was growing up. His dad only went there for a few years through work. You could argue his true home is Dublin (if you read his autobiography). _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

I wish they would stop giving him lifetime achievement awards, it makes it sound like it is all over!

It makes a change from waiting until someone is dead before saying how good they were. |
