Perhaps it's because i am getting older and i am mellowing but i have to admit i do repect Liz and Phil
She is 85 he 90 and they manage to pull off a dinner for the president of the united states.
Now i don't beleive in a monachry but they have done a lot for this coubtry
Think im going to start reading the guardian again lol

I was watching Sky News Live as the guests arrived. Gordon Brown, Lord John Major, Archbishop Of Canterbury, Tom Hanks, amoungst others. Then the speeches, and the cameras faded out whilst they started to eat. I wonder if they do eat what was on the menu which consisted of.. Cray Fish & Roast Lamb. Hopefully the food was tested by the Secret Service like the pint of Guinness Barack Obama drank in Ireland, but that was flown in from the states.

Someone told me that 2 weeks before Obama arrived they had many of the windows changed in Buckingham Palace in the wing where he is staying to include bullet proof glass, no doubt at our expense

I respect the Queen and her family but wouldn't even bother opening my curtains if Obama was standing outside my window

He is anti British as was shown when the recent oil spill happened in the Gulf of Mexico and the very first thing he did when he became President was to order the removal of the bust of Winston Churchill which stood in the Oval office for countless years

Personally I feel the sooner he leaves this country the better

John, I think it was his grandfather who claimed to have been tortured in Kenya but if Obama is not happy with the way we British operate in war zones then perhaps we should leave Afghanistan and cease operations in Libya immediately and spend the money saved at home on our own population and let the Yanks fight their own battles

Britain is simply unimportant to Obama and it's an insult that he's been invited here and I for one certainly don't welcome him

He's unhappy about how his father/grandfather were treated, and he's entitled to be aggrieved.

John, of course anyone is entitled to be aggrieved in those alleged circumstances but in that case why would that person want to be involved in a State visit to a country which they clearly hate?

And by the way I dislike George Bush No 2 equally as much as Obama

It never ceases to amaze me the abysmal quality of top American politicians but I guess if a country has a system where money gets people elected it's hardly surprising they end up with idiots albeit rich idiots

Rud do you not think that BP deserved it's bashing at the time of the gulf of mexico disaster ? and BP are not really a British company they are a PLC and are very much an international company.
By the by Obama standing up for his citizens who through the fault of BP were about to lose their livelihoods is his job as President.

I couldn't personally disagree more with your first post I have very little respect for our royal family as they represent an outdated regime that just isn't relevant in a democratic world we live in, I don't wish them dead but I wish them out, IF we feel we need to have a non political head of state we should still elect them it is our right. Where as Obama is at least a great orator but more importantly for me elected.

You also can hardly blame Obama or whoever was elected from trying to build some bridges with some other parts of the world after the Bush pretty much burned them all. This visit is about reminding the UK that we are still friends but not their only one.

Expensive exercise for 3 days visit. I know when the US president travels around the US the back of one of the cars with the secret service in is open showing there guns, but they an't allowed to do this in the UK or show there weapons. I remember when Jeremy Vine talked about this on his last visit to the UK.
