How can Steve McClaren keep saying some of his players were off sick and didn't have a good squad when the players last night are nearly on £150k each a week? If they can't perform for England then they shouldn't even play football at all. OK it can be a weak team if you havn't got experienced international players, but I think they are not playing for McClaren. Erikson may of had his faults, but at least they won under his leadership.

Mark,
That post has seriously annoyed me.

Why do you insist on posting about things you do not know about?
150k a week for any top class International side is completely peanuts. Think about what some of the best players are on a week....
And as far as saying if someone isn't good enough to play for England they shouldn't play at all? Mark, I have been very patient with you, but that post is just ridiculous. |

£150k per week = £7.8m per annum. Are many players making more than that per year? I seriously doubt it. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west.....

Hmmm. I thought Mark meant some of the players were on £150k per week, not the whole team. There's probably one or two on that, isn't there? And his point seems to be that with those wages they should be playing better than they did last night, which I think is fair. If I was earning that much my bosses would expect a superb performance every time. |

PAYE - score or they don't get paid. That should shake them up a bit. Imagine going home to the WAG and saying. ''Sorry, darling, no shoes this week'' _________________ Eternal nothingness is fine if you happen to be dressed for it. |

They are paid to play for their CLUBS. Why should they risk injury in a meanlingless friendly when they are putting themselves at risk of missing matches in competitive tournaments?

I'm not expecting them to go hell-for-leather, but completing a few passes and trying to score would be quite nice. The other side managed it! |

I beg your pardon you dont have to be so rude. Some of the top english footie players are on around 150k a week. I do know what I'am talking about, and sorry if you disagree, but if they can't play for our english team well then they shouldn't be playing at all. Football is all about money, money now. They all do receive an apperance fee from the FA too.
Thankyou. |

Alan Shearer was, if memory serves, on around £80K per week in his last season at Newcastle. Not bad for someone I used to see kicking a ball around the back field at Gosforth High School yonks ago. Kieron ("Roasting") Dyer is possibly on something similar. Can't remember what Michael Owen is reportedly getting but I bet it's around the £100K mark now, even if he should be claiming SSP.... Frank Lampard is on around £5.2M pa, plus another £1.2M in sponsorship etc. John Terry's total amount is about £5.8M pa but I'm not sure what the breakdown is. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

Is this a public quiz that anybody can enter? Do I get a prize for answering correctly?

England don't have a God given right to win at football, cricket, rugby or any other sport, they don't go out onto the pitch to play with any other intention other than doing their best to win. Many fans think it is just about winning, well life don't allow you to be a winner all of the time and although I am a football fan who spends time watching football every weekend that I can, it is only a game. Come on, as Tel tells us, nobody died, did they! If we went back to basics and taught the kids that playing and enjoying the game in sports person type manner is what is really important and that winning is the icing on the cake, we may have a few less louts and a lot more well balanced sporting young people, OK.
