I was very disappointed with the first two of these shows but tonight's (April 20) was a vast improvement, Cullum actually sounded like he IS presenting a jazz show. He gave a good run down on the original Jazz Crusaders for the benefit of listeners who wouldn't know of them, so educating the listener.
And has Jamie took on the points made by critics? he played a classic Louis Armstrong track; just wish he'd mentioned it was recorded in 1933.
I very much enjoyed Dee Dee Bridgewater who I've heard before, very much like Ella Fitzgerald so I was surprised she was doing a tribute to Billie Holiday, her Strange Fruit was hauntingly excellent, though from her other songs it sounds like Dee Dee in her tour is doing a Billie tribute without imitation, a brave thing to do in front of Billie fans.
Good show Jamie <ok> _________________ -

Have to say I've not listened in much to Jamie Cullums shows, too much of his opinionated and incomprehensible 'review' and the playlist just isn't jazz much of the time
But I was recommended to listen to his interview this/last week with Kate Bush

I haven't had time to listen yet so I've just recorded the mid-section of the show on Audacity/mp3 will try and check it out soon, there's couple of her new recordings featured.
Anyone interested there's just two days left to listen. _________________ -
