I found this an interesting listen because I came to it knowing nothing, apart from his music, about Wilson Pickett.
He was described on this by someone as a sweet, shy guy but sweet, shy guys don't hold guns to people's heads do they?
Great voice and a great talent but a complex man...doesn't mention it on the programme but I've read elsewhere since listening to this that he said this about his mother "she was the baddest woman in my book, I get scared of her now. She used to hit me with anything, skillets, stove wood — (one time I ran away and cried for a week). Stayed in the woods, me and my little dog"....he eventually left to live with his father in Detroit in 1955 ...perhaps this treatment from his mother goes a long way to explain (but not excuse )the behaviour of the man.

This programme, like some previous ones, cut out before the end so I thought I'd contact Feedback, like Helen, about it but I am being given this message "Error 502 - Bad Gateway" when I do. |

I've just listened to it...and it cut off before the end. Grrr...
I love Pickett...and all the Atlantic/Stax soul. He sure was a bad ass, but those records he made from '65 to '69 were something else. _________________ life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans |

Had a look at the iPlayer page, it's a long process to get where you want but this link is, I think, the page I used.
https://iplayerhelp.external.bbc.co.uk/templates/bbciplayer/emailForms/emailPage?entryID=&id=KI5DOT6CRKERNTS7GUIGDNSEGK&moduleID=&uid=347766872
Hope that helps!

PS to above Becky.
I suddenly realised you maybe were talking about the Feedback programme's contact! Had a look and this one seems to be working http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/features/feedback/contact/

Thanks for the links, Helen.....that's the one I tried first without any luck.
I take my 'hat' off to you for completing the first one....what a rigmarole!!...designed, it would seem, to put you off, which it did me after I clicked on a link and lost all the information I had already put!!
Those few minutes will have to remain a mystery as I've given it up as a bad job!! |
