I thought this perhaps deserved it's own thread in case not everyone has read the Lynn Bowles one.
It was Fran's last stint doing the travel news on WUTW this morning and (I think) it is Boggy's next week and from then on Lynn will be doing the travel.
I feel a bit sad at the breaking up of the team but I guess things have to evolve and move on otherwise they stagnate.
Also think that this unfortunatley means Terry may not be hanging around for too much longer but we'll have to see what happens there. |

When was this announced? I havent heard Terry for a while. Getting Up & into work listening to Sarah these mornings
This is the best bit of Terry's show. I'm sorry but Lynn may be fine with Ken (and just about bearable on the early breakfast cat show) but please!!! She will not gel with Terry. It's chalk and cheese. If he wasnt leaving already, a week with Lynn should help him make up his mind. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

PS. Terry's home page links to a message from Mark Occomore saying
"Messageboards...
"For all you TOGs who tune into Sir Tel every weekday morning. Please feel free to discuss his show etc' on the thread which has been set aside for him."

I'm not really a Fran fan, but do feel this will be a bad move. I wonder if it would have happened if Paul Walters were still around? |

This is terrible news. Okay, LB may be funny in her own right re her banter with KB, but IMHO she's not a patch on Boggy, Deadly and Fran's interaction with Terry. As some have mentioned already, the sections before the travel are often the highlights of WUTW.
Sounds like it's the beginning of the end for WUTW, more's the pity.
This may inspire me to e-mail Lesley Douglas with my feelings.

IF................. this news is true, it means Terry's leaving. Bringing in Lynn is not freshening the show up: we hear enough from her on Ken & Sarah's shows. Someone new would freshen things up.
So Terry is off at the end of March then? (If this is true) _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

It is true sadly, Terry announced this morning that Fran was going.
If you listen to the 8:50 travel news it's on the end of that. Also don't forget Boggy is due to retire this year, in July I think.
I agree with gfloyd that this surely means Terry is going soon, it's all very sad but I don't blame Terry if he feels the time is right to retire, the old boy can't go on forever. |

I don't think Tel has been up to par since Pauly passed. I was thinking the other morning, he sounds chipper, but a bit of the sparkle has gone, or is that just me? _________________ Eternal nothingness is fine if you happen to be dressed for it. |

So - no more Janet & John? I enjoy Lynn with Ken, they have a good rapport, but I can't see Ms Bowles gelling with Sir Tel.
I agree that this sounds like the beginning of the end of Wogan as we know it. I will really miss Boggy and Tel collapsing in helpless laughter.
Thanks again, Lesley, another "popular" decision. _________________ MiS |

You have a point, there, Nat. I suspect he feels it's just not the same since Doctor Wally passed on, maybe his heart's not quite in it so much any more.
Who can blame him if this is the case? I'm certainly not going to blame him for retiring, wanting to call it a day, or whatever, he certainly deserves his retirement. I am annoyed about the decision to break up what has been a winning team in advance of his possible departure, though. It would have been more fitting and much kinder on all concerned to let the trio continue with the current arrangement until Terry hangs up his headphones, then change it. A few weeks difference wouldn't hurt.
The present decision to replace Boggy, Deadly and Fran with LB smacks of interference by management because they can change things, and Terry isn't exactly in a position of strength if he's planning to leave soon. A great pity, and an opportunity missed to provide us with more memories in what may be Terry's swansong. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

Perhaps there going to run with JW for a few weeks before the permanent presenter takes over. This would make sense because lyn always does travel with Johnnie at breakfast. Having JW for a few weeks would be less harsh than Terry finishing 9.30 on Friday and someone else taking over 7.30 the next monday. very sad if true though |

No doubt i will be shot down in flames but if Terry is starting the end and Lynn coming in probably heralds this i feel that
Richard Allinson should take over.
He has done Terry's show numerous times and no matter who takes over ratings will change.
It needs the younger presenter as RA is 20 years younger than Tel.Radio 2 on breakfast plays a lot of new tracks so he would be at home.

It's probably too early to start discussing Terry's replacement when (AFAIK) he hasn't actually announced when he's retiring, but I'd be happy if RA took over, too. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

Listening again to his remarks (or for the first time in my case) I'm not convinced he is leaving. I think the change may be due to John Marsh retiring & the lack of a desire on Terry's part to replace John on the rotation.
That said, I dont feel Lynn is right for the role. If she does feature prominently it lead to too over exposure of her on the morning shows. I doubt she would just do a straight read through like Sally on Steve Wright's show though.
As regards the rumours of Chris taking over, I would have reservations about that. I think he is to high octance for the mornings. I prefer mellow in the morning and his energetic style & raw enthusias is going down very well at teatime IMHO. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Ern..i agree that CE would be to over the top in the morning.
Hears his Request thing tonight which was OK.
still feel he talks a little too fast but overall i have warmed to him more than i did 6 months ago.
If not Richard to take over then who else?

The only reason Sally does a 'straight readthrough' is because Steve's spent so long talking and playing jingles that there's no time for anything else. She loves the limelight as much as anyone else.
No idea who'd replace Terry, but seeing as Richard Allinson's just been removed from the R2 website I very much doubt it's him. |

I think Chris is way too loud for that hour of the day and would probably have listeners turning off in their droves. That said there may be other listeners turning on in their droves.
Personally would not be keen on Allinson either, would much prefer it to be Johnnie Walker.
Anyway we don't know for sure if Terry is going yet so all this may be premature, I hope he sticks it for a while longer but I think he feels the loss of Paul Walters deeply so who knows what is going through his mind.
I will miss Boggy, Fran and Deadly on the travel though.

Its very unlikely these days that someone as low-profile (no offence intended) as Allinson would even be considered. There are very few obvious candidates bar Evans & Ross maybe. Although I'm intrigued where Brand will move to in the schedule with the next reshuffle. Clearly he wont stay at 9pm for long. He could conceivably replace Ross on Saturday mornings, but I suspect Ross's pay deal has cost him the chance of the slot, given that he cost the BBC a few £billion on the licence fee settlement recently.

There must be presenters we have not thought about who could do the job [if there is a vacancy]
Chris Tarrant is a bit damaged goods these days so I think he is out. Ross probably is out of favour because of his contract fee being disclosed. It has to be an entertainer as opposed to a pure music DJ. A comedy or light entertainment background would help. I know: all roads lead to Vernon Kay. Tess Daly to do traffic. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

AsI said on the Lynn Bowles thread. If LD is interfering in WUTW, can she please do the same in the afternoon and remove Organic Janey and timnicebutdim.
There was no need to act this prior to Boggy's retirement. _________________ Geddon

Which mistake was that? Not firing DLT ten years earlier than they did? Tony Blackburn would have a certain nostalgia value. Plus he is as daft as a brush & doesnt take himself too seriously which are both major pluses. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |
