It is one rather splendid car. I heard Chris ringing in to Ken Bruce. Smile

I'll try to get some photos of Chitty and others on Sunday and will post them here on Tuesday. Being a BTOTD Show listener, I'm also going on celeb watch to see how many of them I can offer my autograph to- it's always a good leveller.

I watched the airshow from the comfort of Popham airfield! Most of the aircraft did a low pass of Popham, fantastic sight!

Ah that was inside the VIP tent, Ron. There was loads of sofas and bean bag things, bails/bales (not sure which one it is) of hay with blankets over them etc to sit at. I had a bit of a funny day really. I ended up going on my own which wasn’t ideal for me because I don’t usually go anywhere on my own. The journey there was sweet: Car-fest was well signposted from the M3 , so it was easy to find. The roads were narrow but had been made one-way for the event, so it was cool beans. I arrived at about 10am. The car-park was already really quite full, one of the many attendants ( there was lots of them), directed me to a space on the end of a row, near the exit gate- rather handy I thought. After wandering down to the ticket point, I was given my blue wristband and VIP ticket thing with two free drink tear-off tabs. Then I was in. The whole place was buzzing. It was like looking into a recently exposed ants nest- crawling with activity. There was so much stuff going on. It all looked fab. I was given a free programme of events with a big map of where everything was sited. I could have done with the programme by post- so that I could have planned my day- a minor point. Spontaneity isn’t my thing. After wandering around for about an hour or so, I headed for the VIP tent for a drink. It was fairly empty with a bar at one end- the selection of drinks was ( from my pont of view- someone who doesn't drink alcohol and even if I did couldn't because I was driving) quite poor, it was either alcohol or pepsi. I really wanted tea. I sat outside for a while watching some pre-gig activity on the main stage – the odd really loud twang of a guitar etc. Then out of nowhere, as if by magic, Chris Evans appeared right in front of me. There was a dozen or so people wanting to have their photo taken with him- he had lots of time for them, posing happily with all of them. I thought well, it’s now or never sweetheart: you don’t get this close very often, so I wandered over for a quick hello. I said hello. When I mentioned this place- he did ask what the stories were called, in fact he came back to ask that… so maybe he’ll read em one day, you never know. The return of the imaginary clock award completely slipped my mind. Doh! Next, I headed for the main stage, just to look at it really, cos I’ve not seen a stage like that up close. The area in front of the main stage was completely deserted (as in the photo above) I crossed no barriers, not over under or though. I just walked unfettered towards the stage. As I approached the main stage, a security guard behind the barrier at the foot of the stage started to shout at me. I stopped to look around: does he really mean me, I thought? Yes you! You stupid bint! Get away from the stage! I carried on … he yelled some more- get behind the barrier!!! Now! I don’t do yelling, so rather than guess what he wanted me to do, cos I could see no other barrier than the one he was behind, I carried on so that I could talk to him. He was really quite angry now. You stupid F***ing Cow – get away from the stage, go behind the F***ing barrier. I was the only person there. Not exactly a crowd. I could see no barrier. He yelled and swore at me again. I felt threatened, I got upset- so walked back to my car and drove home. So I didn’t get to see or hear any of the music, to eat or even taste any of the food. So all in all it cost me £400 (two VIP tickets- one unused) to have a 30 second chat with Chris Evans and to be yelled at for walking across an imaginary line in a field. I had a good time though, overall.

That's a great shame, on all counts.
And you don't expect that kind of attitude at an event for BBC Children In Need. Is it worth complaining nicely to someone?

Yep. I agree with the report - it was a fantastic event. On a different day and with hubby as my bodyguard I would have had a jolly good time.

A bridge across the track would be handy....so no waiting. Hot drinks and food in the VIP tent would make it more like a VIP tent- also a big screen in the tent and in other big tents would be useful- especially during rain. I saw lots of folk carrying hot foot on flimsy cardboard trays into the VIP area.
The free program/programme ( I'm never sure which one it is) was fantastic but I would have liked it with the tickets in the post.
The whole shebang was like a mini festival of speed but I think better because it was a different set of people. My advice would be- whatever you do with carfest in the future- do not... repeat, do not, invite Formula 1. As soon as they turn up, it's a whole different circus.

There was zillions of very nice cars Santa but I took a picture of just a few because they were goihg so fast, there was also a clown car that broke down which I wasn't sure was part of the act or if it really did break down... however: I have a real treat for you on Monday- cos we've just come back from the Dorset County Show........I'll start a new thread for that though.. Smile
