I don't listen to Kenny The Bruce's show much these days, but when I did this morning I was staggered to hear the dulcet tones of Greg Lake fronting King Crimson on "In The Court of The Crimson King". Wow! Who'd have thought we'd ever hear this classic on mid-morning Radio 2?
Once that was done with, it was back to the same old uninspiring Radio 2 daytime dross, of course. |

I was thinking exactly the same! I listen to Ken Bruce some of the time, mainly because of his nice little observations on life and his wry sense of humour, certainly not for the usual gay disco dross and cheesy ballads that the pathetic 'producer' Gary Bones inflicts upon the listener.
Anyway I was listening this morning, when-shock horror-along comes King Crimson!! It was one of those surreal moments. Did it really happen?
(Actually I think Epitaph is a better song).
You can tell KB didn't really approve of it though. Not bland enough.
Incidentally, Newsnight presenter Gavin Esler had an interesting chat with Simon Mayo yesterday about prog rock. |

On the same subject, last Friday Midge Ure chose the excellent 'Badge' by Cream on Tracks Of My Years, and 'In My Mind's Eye' by The Small Faces, two 60s classics. What a pity the rest of this dismal show is not as good. |

Not so. He was dead excited about playing it, as he was raving about it on Twitter. |

It's amazing how throwing in a few different records can make a show so much better.
There's nothing worse than knowing exactly what records are going to be played everyday, as is usually the case with Ken's show.
As well as king crimson he played Percy Faith on one day and Moon River as the love song on another.
Just to have a little break from the same old songs can be such a relief when you are working. |

It was noticeable this week! It just goes to show as you said Gazmando that you don't need to play wall to wall so called MOR stuff just to make a programme sound so much better.
