Radio 2 and BBC Local stations will mark the 50th anniversary of the release of the first single Love Me Do (5th October 62).
There will also be a programme on BBC Four by Stuart Maconie on 4th October.

I saw them in 63 and 65 at the City Hall Newcastle. Did anyone else?

Crikey, it's amazing how time flies.
I never saw the Beatles, born a little bit too late (67).
The closest I've got is The Bootleg Beatles at The Cambridge Corn Exchange last year, I thought they were superb though. |

I was only 11 and my Dad got one ticket for 5/- (25p!!). Loads of people can't believe I went on my own but my school used to hold prizegivings/ concerts at the City Hall in November (we had probably been there the week before the Beatles!) and we would go to practice the day before so I knew the place. My Mum dropped me at the front door and picked me up at the end! I suppose it would never happen now.
I can still visualise the four of them on stage. The second time my Mum came and the screaming had stopped so you could hear them sing.

They appeared at Plymouth ABC in (I think) 1963 or 64 and my mum wouldn't let me go. I caught a rumour that they were to be in Plymouth during shooting of Magical Mystery Tour in 1967 but the plans were a secret and I only found out afterwards. They took time off on Plymouth Hoe and lunch in the Grand Hotel and I cursed that I'd missed out. I do have a large framed colour photo of them sitting together on the grass of the Hoe, however. My grandson has a picture of himself sitting in exactly the same spot! |

I saw them at the ABC in Blackpool,Helen, with one of my sisters and a friend and still remember the terrific 'high' I was on for days afterwards...  .
Also saw them on regional TV when they appeared for the first time singing Love Me Do ...life (musically) was never the same again
I'll be listening to Stuart's programme and anything else for that matter (if I get the chance) that celebrates the 50th anniversary of Love Me Do....little did we know when we heard that back then how much we had to look forward to from them... |

Never saw them live on stage myself but my brother did when he was on holiday in Llandudno with some friends.

I was in a daze too Becky! I remember another girl in my class was there, we weren't particular friends before but we were after that!
I'll be setting the recorder for all the programmes.

A friend of mine saw them in Brighton in 1963/64 and, like so many other people, said she couldn't hear the music for all the fans' screaming!
No wonder they gave up touring in 1966 when they were getting a bit more serious musically. |

Me too, and I agree. His sets are (mostly) very good but old Paul just tries a bit too hard these days. I wish he would relax a bit more on stage. |

Heard about this on 6 Music this morning....
Let it bean...Jellybean portrait marks Beatles show launch
The Beatles have been the sweet inspiration for a huge portrait made entirely from jelly beans.
The Fab Four's faces have been recreated from the treats to mark the opening of a West End show next week which pays tribute the group's musical legacy.
Sweet firm Jelly Belly used thousands of the coloured nibbles in the image adapted from the inside cover of the 1967 album Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
The 6ft x 4ft picture is the largest ever created by the confectionery firm and will hang in the foyer of the Prince Of Wales Theatre in London while musical show Let It Be is on.
The production, which has its gala opening night on Monday, features some of the group's biggest hits and its arrival in the West End coincides with next month's 50th anniversary of the release of the Beatles' first single, "Love Me Do".
The show - featuring 20-plus songs made famous by Sir Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr - is due to run until January.
