Am I alone in thinking the press actually needs some sort of regulation? Am I also alone in wondering what the hell was the point of this inquiry if it is just going to be ignored?

It's all very well for the powers that be to spout on about there being legal redress when most people would not be able to afford to take legal action.
Would it not be much better if the press stopped lying about people, demonising people and hacking phones for a nice big headline.

Of course the press needs regulation - urgently

Cameron instigated the whole Leveson thing which has cost taxpayers millions of pounds and yet within a few minutes of the report being officially published our 'esteemed' leader announces that he knows better than the experienced judge he himself appointed to review the whole problematical situation

As a member of the Conservative party since 1973 I have never liked Cameron but this latest episode just reinforces to me exactly where he comes from - a man who is the Conservative version of Tony Blair and I wouldn't trust either of them to clean my windows let alone run the country which explains why things have gone so badly wrong over the last fifteen years or so

However I think Cameron might have drastically misjudged the public mood on the matter of press ethics - or rather lack of them- and today I made my mind up that I will not be voting Conservative next time round - I'll be lending my vote to UKIP until such time as the Conservative Party ditches Cameron and finds a leader who puts Britain's interest first rather than his own political career Mad

If the Tories had a decent leader they would probably hold on to power come the next GE. As it is they are heading for a well deserved hammering (though I fear Miliband will be no better)
The coalition has done neither party any favours, the Libs even less so than the Tories.
Both need a strong leader, although I did not much care for Ashdown/pantsdown I did feel he was the genuine article, similarly though I thought Major was a weak leader he seemed like a decent guy who was basically shafted by people he trusted.

But back to press regulation, Cameron's appearance at the inquiry was not his finest hour and neither was his response to it.
I think it will seriously backfire on him if he simply ignores the recommendations of Lord Leveson.
