that is what it is called. The Brian Cox and that annoying Irish chap programme that was on last night. How rubbish was that? The interesting part was completely ruined by by that Dara comedian chap.... give him the message.....

Yes, I think we are paying for the BBC's determination to get as much value as possible out of their celebrity signings, so we have Dara O'Briain, undoubtedly a clever chap, and whose stand-up evening I enjoyed (even though I could only understand about a half of what he was saying), popping up to co-present programmes on maths, science, and astrology, as well as interrupting the panels of Mock The Week, and Sarah Millican, who was funny for fifteen minutes, popping up just about everywhere, including trying to keep Matt Baker company on The One Show.

Let's see, who else is irritating and is like a rash on our screens?

I quite like it, but I do feel sorry for Robin Ince. He's spent years building up an approachable way of explaining science (including concerts that brought Brian Cox to prominence, and also including Dara O'Briain) but gets overlooked when it comes to telly.

But anyone's who's listened to Infinite Monkey Cage on Radio 4 will know that Brian Cox does need a co-presenter to reign him in, so O'Briain's as good as any. But David Baddiel was useless last night.

O'Briain is the one reason I gave it a miss last night, although Brian Cox is so informative. I think O'Briain talks too quickly, is indistinct and interrupts too much. However, I might watch it on iPlayer so I can fast-track through the annoying bits.

As a newcomer to the forum, I'm posting rather late on this topic but I think that this particular show - which has now been broadcast for three successive years - is an excellent way at driving interest in astronomy (NOT astrology - please).

Being an Irishman, I can just about keep up with O’Briain’s fast paced delivery but he does need to shut up every now and then. But I do like him. I had the pleasure of standing behind him in a queue at Dublin Airport – he’s a man mountain.

Now that the great Sir Patrick is no longer with us, we are dependent on new personalities to step in and take over when it comes to promoting science and other “hard” technical subjects in an entertaining and informative way. This type of programme does just that and I hope they keep it going for at least a few more years.
