A. a donkey or B. a colt?..(perhaps others have heard different to those two?)
I have only ever heard that he rode on a donkey and then along comes Sharon Dirckx last week on Good Morning Sunday and said he rode in on a colt!
I emailed her to say that I had only heard it was a donkey and she emailed back to say.."My Bible says 'colt' and because of the time limits I didn't expound on all the different possibilities."
So it seems it depends on which bible you read.

Jesus walked everywhere. Mary Magdalene was on the donkey, although it was most likely a second (or more) generation crossbreed mule. |

Not on the day in question, he didn't.
"As they came near Jerusalem, Jesus told two of His disciples to go into a nearby village and bring a donkey that would be waiting there. Jesus rode into Jerusalem on the donkey. Crowds of people spread their coats on the ground in front of Him. Some waved branches of palm trees, a sign of victory"

Well that's one version, I remember that one from school. The donkey was actually for his pregnant wife but since the entire christian faith is built on a big fat lie designed very successfully as it turned out, to suppress women, then being a woman and for the sake of peace and harmony here, I'm happy to accept that version if you are. There are though many other texts around from near the time that provide a more realistic and believable version of events. It's quite interesting when you really start digging. |

Pregnant wife???
I think you have got your Marys mixed up.
"When the time came for the Virgin Mary to give birth, it was the time of the census. Everyone in those days had to journey to the town of their birth to be counted. So the couple set off to the town of Bethlehem, the birth place of Joseph. The Virgin Mary rode on a donkey, and by this time was very large and to the point of giving birth"

There was more than one Mary. His mother was Mary, Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene, vilified as a prostitue by the catholic church, all references to her having been his wife have been removed from the modern bible but there are many other ancient texts that say she was. |

Actually, John, that part of the DaVinci code is the only bit that story that is true but as ever with ancient stuff, it's only what we believe that is true. The real truth is we'll never know for sure. |

I wonder whether that's why Roman Catholic Priests used to dish out at their regular confessions penalties such as saying 'Three Hail Marys'
I always thought that it was rather like writing 'lines' at school but if there were three of more 'Marys' perhaps some people have been under a serious misapprehension for all these years _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

There are 6 Maries/Marys? mentioned in the Bible.
1) Mary, the mother of Jesus. She was of the tribe of Judah and a descendant of David. Hence it could be said of her son Jesus that he "sprang from the seed of David according to the flesh." (Ro 1:3) We read about her in many verses including, Luke 1:26-32.
2) Mary, the sister of Martha and Lazarus. One place that we read about her is when Jesus is at the home of her sister Martha. (Luke 10:38-42)
3) Mary Magdalene. Her name likely means "Belonging to Magdala." This could stem from her being from the town of Magdala (or Magadan), though we have no definite proof of this as being her hometown. Luke refers to her as "Mary the so-called Magdalene" at Luke 8:2.
4) Mary, referred to as "The other Mary" at Matthew 27:61. She was the wife of Clopas (Alphaeus) and the mother of James the Less and Joses. (Mt 27:56; John 19:25) Some believe that Clopas and Joseph, the adoptive father of Jesus, were brothers. If this were true, and we have no definative proof either way, this would make this particular Mary Jesus' aunt, and her sons his cousins.
5) Mary, the mother of John Mark and the aunt of Barnabas.(Acts 12:12; Colossians 4:10) Her home was used for a meeting place by the early Christian congregation in Jerusalem.
6) Mary of Rome. Paul sent greetings to her at Romans 16:6, and was spoken well of due to her "many labors" in behalf of the interests of the Roman congregation. |

I think you're right, Rudds, Rachel was the second wife of Jacob , she was the mother of Joseph (the guy with the coat) and Benjamin. Poor old Jacob was well and truley seen off by Rachel's parents. Jacob had the hots for Rachel, and agreed to 7 years of slavery in exchange for her hand in marriage, however, after the wedding it turned out Jacob had actually married Rachel's older sister, so he had to toil for a further 7 years before he could finally marry Rachel, worth it though, for a Rachel... I always wonder why when people quote from the bible they don't quote the fun parts , like having more than one wife... There's a party! |
