|
|
The well-known BBC Radio 2 top-of-hour news intro and sonic station logo has been refreshed by jingle production company Wise Buddah.
In addition to a new seven note sonic logo, Wise Buddah also provided 10 new IDs to update the package, which now has over 50 separate cuts.
All the jingles from the package supplied last year have been re-arranged to fit with the new logo, and started airing this morning.
Wise Buddah worked with the BBC Concert Orchestra and Cliff Masterson, Beverley Knight, Clare Teal, Robbie McIntosh, Craig Blundell and the ‘Wise Buddah Big Band’ featuring Dave Arch, John Parricelli, Ian Thomas and a host of jazz luminaries on the new cuts.
On making the Jeremy Vine ID, composer Jem Godfrey was inspired to incorporate the sound of a phone: “I hit upon the idea of using the touch tone notes of the station’s phone number as the main musical hook, 0500 288 291. Seeing as Jeremy’s show features many listeners calling in to express their views and participate in the discussions of the day, it seemed a perfect way to reflect this key element of the programme”.

All over-long. Nothing wrong with the previous ones IMHO, so a waste of our licence fee money...............

Not really they have just refreshed the package not really a waste as it's mostly done in house.

Even Jeremy and Sally suggested it was a pointless waste of money! |

It's part of the BBC's plan. It is Radio 2, after all, it's a station whose audience is pretty much changed over the years from the reactions to Evans replacing Wogan.
That said when they advertised for the new jingles they asked interested parties to either provide a new sonic logo or stick to the old one. It's likely Wise Buddah submitted plans for both, and the BBC told them to do both in one session for a staggered rollout? So guessing it was in place anyway. |

They're just jingles. Having new ones makes life more interesting, like when supermarkets move things around and you have to ask where the beans are and they say, where the sugar used to be, so where's the sugar? Where the milk used to be... and the milk? Brussell Sprouts. Of course! Where else? But after a few weeks, you don't even remember that it's changed. |

Well the one into the news sounds like that horrendous song from Wicked where the person is almost shrieking. The pitch is way too high.

I find the fact that supermarkets constantly inconvenience their regular loyal customers by shifting stuff around as annoying or probably even more annoying than the BBC wasting our money on silly new jingles at a time of supposed financial stringency
Why can't people just leave things alone - as they say 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

I agree, the new jingles are ghastly and unnecessary. |

I had a feeling you might, Rudds. find it annoying, that is.
Perhaps it was broken but you didn't notice because maybe you don't fully explore the shopping envelope. |

In the retail world it's an essential marketing tool, to make shoppers look at other products or brands rather than going to the same place for the same thing all the time.
The frequent "updating" of radio station jingles is harder to justify, as must be the time and expense incurred, judging by the weight of talent used, according to that article. _________________ Ron |

About as essential as asking me if I want to buy a packet of biscuits or a bar of chocolate at the till NO!! If I did I would have chosen one
I know the person at the till has been told to ask, its the managers I blame. I usual say I don't want the <item> before they get chance to ask |

Yes, that is happening more and more ...I asked one assistant how she felt about doing it and she replied she hated doing it but would be in danger of losing her job if she didn't ...rather extreme, I thought! |

I've heard that as well from people who work in shops. I assume it's driven by accountants who don't mind annoying their customers, and staff. |

Still hate the ident into the news, sounds so starchy an doesn't flow at all.
Haven't been listening to R2 that much during the last 2 or 3 weeks so it's only that one that I've noticed as the rest has been very much 'background listening' which I'm sad to have to resort to.
