Reading the Radio Times I'm pleased to see that music from Ben Hur is being played on this programme ...I love that score and don't think I've ever heard it on the radio before...
Have just started to listen to the 1st part on Listen Again. |

I think I enjoyed last night's, even more than the previous JW offerings.
Just wish I had them all on my Humax recorder... _________________ life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans |

I enjoyed almost all of it but I really prefer his musicals Proms. I've booked to see him at London's Festival Hall in December (sold out now!) and that is a programme of MGM musicals which suits me fine. Fingers crossed the singers will include Matthew Ford and Kim Criswell and the girl whose name I've forgotten who did the great Ethel Merman take-off last year. |

I felt the same Eileen but enjoyed it more on TV than just listening to it on the radio.
Was it Caroline O'Connor who did the Ethel Merman songs? I thought that was his best prom of all and love to listen to it, although I do have it on a DVD that I made from the TV recording.

Helen, I've just looked at Matt Ford's website and he is booked for the Festival Hall concert so that is a huge plus. I think you are right about Caroline O'Connor and they showed a brief clip of her during the Prom interval. |

John Wilson was on Steve Wright this afternoon starting 15.43 ish if you want to iPlayer.
His new album At The Movies sounds good from the clips Steve played.
Can't wait to see his new show which forms his tour!

Thanks for that Helen. I booked for his December concert at the Festival Hall after you had alerted me to the tour. A couple of weeks later it was sold out! |

The concert was excellent and I'm sure you'll enjoy it Eileen.
Lots of tunes I knew but a quite a few that I didn't. Matthew Ford and Anna Jane Casey were both fantastic.
I think they had some sound problems at the start, it was a bit echoey, but it got better as the concert progressed. It was a full house and he could have done a handful of encores rather than just the one.
I believe he is going to be on Radio Wales on Sunday with Beverley Humphries, 9-11pm.

I went to the RFH last night and it was wonderful, Helen. I expect it was the same programme as you heard. Matt Ford and Anna Jane Casey were great - isn't it good to hear ALL the words! I thought she did so well in"You Made Me Love You" which could misfire badly with a lesser actress/singer. Matt was terrific in everything he sang.
I enjoyed the little humorous touches e.g. in "I Got Rhythm" when each section played their piece, they got a round of applause from the rest of the band , and when Matt and trumpeter Mike Lovatt did Bing and Louis in "I Love You, Samantha", Mike waved his big white hanky at the end, Satchmo-style .
All in all, a great evening's entertainment. |

I'm so glad you enjoyed it Eileen, I was thinking of you! I thought "I Got Rhythm" was superb as well.
When they played "I Love You Samantha" I thought of David Jacobs as I'm sure you did.
I wonder what they'll come up with for the next one?

He is doing a brand new concert of Cole Porter music next November in the Albert Hall. He flagged it up last night and said that booking was now open. I presume it will tour at some stage but he didn't mention that.
And yes, I thought of David on hearing his signature tune . Must remember the good times! |

Oh that sounds interesting, I'll look it up. I suppose he mentioned it as he was in London. Was there a bit of a last night of the tour atmospere? Ours was the 2nd night in, last year it was the last of the tour.

It's difficult to say if there was a "last night of the tour" atmosphere. The packed audience was very responsive and the applause at the end went on for absolutely ages. John Wilson spoke of the tremendous stamina of everyone in the band and they all looked pretty jolly. Perhaps that was their usual demeanour in a live theatre show. |

Eileen I'm not sure if you'll be interested but I believe the tickets for the Cole Porter concert at the Royal Albert Hall went on sale on Friday. It was the Albert Hall website but a lot were not available which makes me think they have been given to an agency which is what I found out, a bit too late to get tickets for his 2011 tour.
The concert is on 25 November.
