... and the reason the BBC have by virtue of their scheduling rendered this channel pretty much unwatchable becomes clear....
If nobody's watching, then no one will miss it! |

I don't agree. The channel has achieved the highest reach of 18-15 year olds and has pioneered not only two hugely successful comedies - Gavin & Stacey and the Inbetweeners (both of which were turned down by BBC1 and BBC2 commissioning heads) - but it has also taken a risk on new styles of production and presentation. Apart from the two comedies above, I don't watch it, but I lament the way the BBC is taking less risks and going for the same-old, same-old.
We're told that BBC3 will pioneer online-only delivery (presumably behind a paywall as soon as they're allowed - which won't be long) for the BBC but its target audience is less inclined to use iPlayer for this purpose.
Whilst I sympathise with Tony Hall's dilemma in that he doesn't want to continue with the across-the-board top-slicing and going instead for one big cut, I wonder if cutting off the one channel that stands a chance of building tomorrow's audiences is to in order to save money. |

| Don't forget that BBC3 is also the spill over channel for sport with football & tennis making regular appearances. Where will they go? |

Think you've got the Inbetweeners mixed up with something else,Colin....it started on E4/Channel 4 and stayed there as far as I can remember.
I feel sorry for BBC3 viewers but must admit I heaved a huge sigh of relief when I heard it was BBC3 that was to be axed as opposed to BBC4.
I watched the odd programme on 3 but not enough to miss it. |

I think perhaps my sardonic tone was lost in my original posting.....
When I look at the scheduling for BBC3, I can only conclude that they are deliberately trying to kill it (on the basis that nobody can be that bad by accident). Last night (a Saturday!) there were seven repeated episodes of the Family Guy cartoon, scheduled back-to-back.
They are doing what they wanted to do to with 6Music : when there is innovative and ground-breaking territory to be explored (precisely what the BBC should be doing because it cant be justified commercially) they want to abandon it and retreat to the safe stuff. |

It's always been on E4/Channel 4, Becky.
It's sad that the Beeb is closing BBC 3. An organisation that gets so much revenue, should be easily able to afford it...but when you see the hundreds of millions they squander...and still do, well, it's no wonder the Tories want to change the rules regarding prosecution for not having a TV licence. Far too many suits, and not enough programme makers. And of course, the Beeb has replied, saying that BBC 4 may have to go, if this happens...I think they're a law unto themselves.
