Just back from seeing it. What a thoroughly delightful film and terrific cast.
I liked the end credits in which the fictional home's many residents were shown as they appeared in the film + photos of their younger selves (with informative captions) in their professional roles in earlier years.
The beautiful house and grounds where it was filmed is Hedsor House in Buckinghamshire, privately owned but with limited opening to the public planned this year (as a fundraiser for the little church which also features).
Well done to Dustin Hoffman on his directorial debut! |

Anything with Maggie Smith and Tom Courtenay in it has to be good. I shall wait until it comes out on DVD and watch in in the comfort of my own home. |

Toggy I like going to the flicks especially if I am very eager to see certain films asap. We choose our own seats via the web and always sit in the back row in the middle at the top of the aisle so we can stretch our legs out with no danger of someone sitting in front.
Also there are not the distractions you get at home of the doorbell or phone ringing or of one of you saying "Can you just pause it while I get a cup of tea/go to the loo/etc etc" . |

We generally avoid the cinema as we got fed up with people using mobiles, talking through films and generally being a pain in the neck.
however we were going to break with tradition and watch Quartet, alas it is no longer on where we live.
As Homer Simpson would say, Doh! |

Saw it with my better half at an afternoon showing on Monday. A very enjoyable experience - not least that even with OAP tickets we lowered the average age of the audience.
Most of the audience even remained seated to see the end credits (hoping to identify the cast/guest performers).
What a difference from other films we've seen recently where younger audiences have been talking/texting/farting/grazing all through and the staff have barged in as soon as the closing credits start to sweep up the detritus left by the barbarous hordes............rant over....
It's a good film. _________________ Standing on Ray Moore's shoulders |

Sorry to resurrect such an old thread.
Finally got to watch this wonderful film this afternoon (thankyou Netflix)
We enjoyed it very much, it was beautifully acted, great storyline, funny & poignant.
Billy Connolly's character was very funny. I loved Maggie, Tom, Pauline and Michael Gambon. I also spotted Andrew Sachs and the bloke from the vicar of Dibley.
Excellent film, would recommend to anyone. |

I saw this last week ...it's a truly lovely film that leaves you with a smile on your face at the end of it.
All of the performances were spot on with, for me, the lovely Pauline Collins shining the brightest as Cissy.
The relationship between her,Tom Courtenay and Billy Connolly was portrayed so well by the three you couldn't help but think it was true ...wonderful acting!
I could see shades of the Dowager Countess of Grantham in Maggie Smith's performance.
I also liked the credits at the end, Eileen.... a nice touch. |
