The Prince of Wales has appeared to criticise fast food chain McDonald's at the launch of a public health campaign in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
During a tour of a diabetes centre in Abu Dhabi, he told a nutritionist that banning the restaurants was "key".

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Maybe he needs to take a lesson out of his mothers book and keep his opinions to himself. It's not the first time he's criticised.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A spokes person for McDonald's said it was "disappointed", adding that other royals "have probably got a more up-to-date picture of us".

( Edited to make it sound correct for the Royalists of the country )

I'm not sure if "banning" is the key. Surely education and moderation is the key.

You'd be probably better off eating the packaging and throwing away the burger - more nutricious.... Smile

Love the sausage egg muffins. Coffee can taste strong even with a lot of milk in. I must admit the burgers don't always look as nice as some of the advertising posters, that can be misleading. I suppose Prince Charles should just turn up un announced to a Mac d's one day to taste it for himself?

And if it's in the Daily Wail it must be true! (Actually, Helen Mirren is an actress and not the monarch).

Or "Super Size One" as the royal version was called.

I think the problem is not attributable to one brand - it's all the international conglomerates whose aim is global domination and maximum profit at the expense of quality. No matter what you buy - whether it's burgers, pizza or that "coffee" that's 90% air and huge profit - it's all pretty bland. No wonder there's a foodie backlash at the moment. Maybe our grannies were right after all.

I've never, ever, spent any money in McDonald's and I never will - and if I want decent pizza I'll wait til I'm next in Naples. There's no better pizza on the planet! Forget about the rubbish on offer in American-branded pizza joints that's laced with salt to encourage you to buy coca-cola, "bud" beer (another name for Cats-Pee) and other gut-rot.

I agree in essence with Prince Charles' sentiment, although I wouldn't go so far as to suggest "banning" it, since there are too many people who are hooked on this junk. Let 'em rot, that's what I say. At least their disgusting habits keep people in jobs!

Well isn't that the aim of most high flying companies? quality is a thing of the past anyway, it's sell 'em cheap and throw 'em away now.
But that's my point, why is McDonalds singled out every time?

Is it though? some of McDonalds products are actually nice and, people do buy them, in their millions so it must be what some people want.

I agree with that too, some modern foods and most drinks definitely do not taste as nice as they did years ago, I'm convinced of that.
I look at my elderly residents in their 80's and 90's. They ate all the stuff that's supposed to be bad for you but they're still here. Of course there's always a counter argument to that...

How do you know what it tastes like?
I love the sausage & egg burgers and the hash browns are great too. The apple pies are nice and the Big Mac isn't at all bad. One of the nicest commercial salads I've tasted came from McDonalds a few years back too.

Don't know about Pizzas, don't like them.

I'm not hooked on McDonalds and have no sympathy for those morons who are. Once a month maybe, or a snack whilst on the road, it's ok.
But ban it? no way...

Because they (as an organisation) symbolise everything that's bad about the "stack 'em high and sell 'em cheap" food industry.

A lot of people choose to give their money to corporations like McD (and their franchisees) simply because it's perceived to be acceptable to their peers. McD's marketing is hugely successful because of this. It's the power of "brand" - and stupid people don't seem to be aware of the power it has over them.

SantaFefan wrote:

I've no desire to learn, and nor do I have any desire to part with my money in the organisation's favour. I prefer to support locally sourced produce prepared by people who really care - and who have a vested interest in locally-sourced produce. I really have no care for corporations like McDonalds at all.

SantaFefan wrote:

A pizza made in a Neopolitan family restaurant is like no other. By comparison, the stuff Pizza Hut serves up, er, sucks (to use a fashionable vernacular).

McDonalds does get a bad rap. Some of it is unfair. The other mulitples and local fish & chip shops never get picked on even though their collective sales are much greater. I'm sure there is some anti-American sentiment driving the criticism from some quarters.

As with SantaFe Fan I would eat in McDonalds roughly once a month. Even the I sometimes would only have a coffee and a muffin (btw their coffee is much better than some of the alleged coffee specialist shops)
