Such sad news that Terry Wogan died this morning after a short illness.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk
Mark Goodier is doing a tribute show on R2 now, I missed the first hour but I'll listen again for sure.
I've so many memories of him and they are flooding back.
RIP Terry.

It seems I'm just coming on to post about dear departed radio legends...but there's no other forum where these things are concerned.
Hello H, by the way. Listening to it as well...luckily, you can rewind to the start. And I have his last breakfast show recorded somewhere.
Total legend and just a nice guy, who, according to Andy Kershaw, was just the same off stage as on it. He's never been replaced, nor will he ever be, Like you Helen, so many memories of the great man. I first remember him sitting in for Jimmy Young, sometime in 1969. Straightaway, I was struck by his wonderful voice and impish humour.
Thanks for the memories, Tel. _________________ life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans |

I'll try and think of a way, Helen. Will do a bit of googling later. Mine's from Audacity, which, if I'm not mistaken, I installed because you'd mentioned it. _________________ life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans |

Such sad and unexpected news about dear Tel. I still think back to the days of WUTW with the wonderful team of Terry, Paulie, Boggy, Deadly and Fran and the long running sagas about traffic cones, Paulie's tin of rhubarb etc.
At that time I made a tape of some of the programmes but fading out the records and keeping just the banter. I must find them.
RIP Terry. |

I think Alison Moyet said it "A voice missing from breakfast kitchen". Thats where I remember Terry from. I remember when I was in secondary school, Just before I left to go to school I would set a tape going to tape 45 mins of the show and listen to it when I came it. Terry's banter was the main thing but it got me into some music I would never have heard (Hoyt Axon - Della and the Dealer).
Thanks for all the fun times, Terry, rest in peace. _________________ Some say he once threw a microwave oven at a tramp and that all his potted plants are called 'Steve'.....all we know is, he's called 'The Stig!'. |

What awful news.
77 doesn't seem very old, these days.
This is turning out to be a very sad year. |

Indeed it is. Here's a couple of things I remember from his radio show. The occasion when he made John 'Boggy' Marsh 'corpse' on air as he was about to deliver a traffic bulletin. And it happened again a couple of days later as well!! I am so glad that these occasions were preserved on his Janet & John CDs.
I also seem to remember that he (along with Johnnie Walker) was surprised on air to receive an award by America's country music association for all the support that he & Johnnie had given to country & western music.
Sir Terry & 'Pauly' have been re-united. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

Not entirely unexpected, but still a shock and very sad. Reading all the tributes, the world seems less of a place without him in it. |

Ian did you know something that we didn't? I agree it seemed worse than we thought as it was most unusual for him to miss things.
Even Deadly said when Richard M asked said he wasn't aware of his illness.

I just had a feeling. When he didn't return as he was supposed to, I went digging and found there'd been no public statements or mentions since November which I thought was odd for a "back injury" - I mean, they even wheeled out Brucie over Christmas and he'd had a fall. I was going to mention it on here, but thought I'd be coming across as unnecessarily grim. |

Strangely yesterday I was sorting out some books etc and came across one by Wogan that my Mum gave me (she'd read it) but I'd not read it and I thought 'I'll read that this week'. I wonder if it was a premonition?

Eileen I often wish I'd done the same instead of cutting out the presenter. Latterly I left in a few when I made some tapes/mini discs.

I couldn't Beleive it when I heard this first thing. Mark and Richard paid a glowing tribute and I'm sure we will have more across the coming weeks. You always think they live for ever as they have been part of your life. So many have lost there battle against this deadly desease. It's been such a hard day and my condolences go to every one who grew up with him on here, his colleagues in radio and tv and his family |

Someone triggered a thread on digital spy a few days ago about whether he'll return to radio 2, which made me think, but obviously we all didn't realise it was more than a back problem |

That's so true Mark. I've enjoyed the shows today, it must have been so difficult especially for 'Terry's team' on Richard Madeley's show.

Just a shame some shows have been caught out by pre-recording - especially Johnny Walkers. |

I thought that too, it would have been 3 tribute shows in a row had it been live.

My first visit to this forum for a while as I wanted to pay tribute to Sir Terry
As you might remember I was a big fan, I even met him a couple of times and he was exactly as everybody has been saying today.
Witty, charming, kind, decent and so on.
I feel like I've been booted in the guts, it's just so so sad. |

BTW, slightly off-topic but while I'm talking about my gut feelings I think listeners might want to make the most of any Bill Kenwright appearances this year. |

It sounds like it was all very quick, Ken Bruce and Deadly seemed as shocked as anyone else yesterday.
I haven't heard anything from John Marsh yet, I hope he's ok, or as OK as he can be... |

RIP Terry. No tribute yet from Chuffer Dandridge. Very remiss given what Terry did for his career. Have any Janet & John stories been broadcast or are they too near the knuckle these days? |

Lovely tribute Chris Evans did with the ' Wake Up To Wogan ' jingle. Lovely story about Jeremy Vine as he met him in the lift. JV had ran to work bumped into Terry who had to go too the 6 floor and JV to the 2nd. He said its 7.28 your going to be late. Then when he opened the mic said its amazing which colleagues you meet in the lift. |

I've recorded it but I've already heard and read in the paper about JV in the lift is that + the rest that you've mentioned all there is?
I won't watch Evans so was going to ff through it but if that's all that's on I'll not bother to watch.

Father Brian D'Arcy gave a wonderful tribute, well 2 actually. One at 8:15 which moved me to tears then again during pause for thought which also moved me to tears.
The sound of dear Ken signing off in tears set me off again.
Great tributes throughout the day and a lovely 'One Show' special dedicated to him tonight too. |

There is a 'Chuffer Dandridge' audio reading on this page (no 6 in the list - about ½ way down) http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/weird-news/radio-4-host-evan-davis-789878 _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

I thought Radio 2 did Terry proud yesterday and today. I have to agree that the words from Brian D'Arcy this morning were very moving.
I'm sure those on this forum would like to hear Terry's final breakfast show again. I've posted it on YouTube with music edits.
https://youtu.be/81rugUNGPEk
For those wondering about John ' Boggy' Marsh, he was on BBC South Today at lunchtime and in their 6.30pm programme. He also spoke to community radio station Uckfield FM this morning. Audio includes a Janet & John story.
https://www.mixcloud.com/UckfieldFM/john-boggy-marsh-remembers-sir-terry-wogan/
I'll be posting more audio of Terry later this week and I'll upload some of the Wake Up to Wogan podcasts. |

Didn't find out the sad news of Sir Terry's passing until late on Sunday and I was surprised at how extraordinarily sad and upset I was..
I have been catching up with some of the tribute programmes and listening to them there is evidence in abundance, just how much he was loved and respected....we have lost a very special man
It's a small blessing to him,his family and all those who loved him that he didn't suffer too long with that horrible disease.
He will be sorely missed. xx
Rest in peace Sir Terry.

I think a lot of people have felt that way Becky, I know it really upset me.
Listening to Steve Wright (bits only as in and out of car) but he's mentioned a few different bits and pieces that I'd forgotten about.

I forgot to say that I watched "The One Show" on Monday and found it very moving (even Chris Evans seemed sincere) and I got tearful when the message from Terry's son Mark was read out. |
